ComparedBy.Us is a consumer community intent on sharing their product experiences with other like-minded consumers and being rewarded for sharing those experiences.

Community members interact by writing reviews for products and services, rating the reviews written by other members and by building a circle of friends within the community.

Our community members are rewarded through the Member Incentive Plan. ComparedBy.Us rewards its members by paying up to $2.00 per review written (please view the Member Incentive Plan for further details).

Member Incentive Plan Changes

We are making some further changes to our Member Incentive Plan that are targeted directly at the spammers that have inundated our site.

ComparedBy.Us is still a fledgling community. Currently our content growth and its associated costs are outstripping our revenue growth. If we wish to remain a viable business we need to make additional changes to the Member Incentive Plan. Some of the changes described below are temporary and as our revenues continue to grow we will be able to reinstate those incentives. Most of these changes have been driven by the spammers and scammers that have attempted to take advantage of the Member Incentive Plan for a quick profit. As we implement controls that limit the ability of our less savory members to take advantage of these incentives we will be able to reinstate them as well.

Member Roles: Rookie

The Rookie role has been changed to limit the role to writing 10 reviews in total. It should now be considered an audition to become a valued member of ComparedBy.Us. You can read further details about this role in the blog post.

Member Referral Program Suspended

As I am sure you are all aware, we have been inundated with a large number of spammers and scammers. So far we have already banned (and deleted content from) more than 175 so called members and we have only been through half of our current members. The current Member Referral system is not able to track bad referrals back to the originating member. This means that we are being asked to pay the spammers for referring other spammers to our site. Not going to happen. We are currently reworking the referral program to make this type of scam impossible in the future. We will be posting an update on the new referral plan in the next week or so.

If you currently have Member Referral earnings in your account they will be paid at the advertised rate once we are able to identify and remove the spammers from the system. If you have referred a member who blatantly plagiarized other websites we will not be paying you a referral fee. If you referred a member who was found editorially unacceptable you will be paid the initial $0.25 referral fee but you will not receive the $0.75 bonus. If you referred a member who has contributed faithfully to ComparedBy.Us you will receive the full referral fee of $1.00. Basically, if the person you referred is in the Beginner or Reviewer roles you will receive your referral fees in full. We expect that this process will take us up to 6 weeks to put in place. At that time the referral plan will be updated and all current monies owing under the existing pan will be reinstated (with the strictures mentioned above) and be paid out in that pay period.

First Review Bonus – Suspended

As we mentioned above, our current costs are outstripping our current revenues. Obviously, something has to give. Effective on January 16th we are rescinding the $1.00 first review bonus for all articles. Any first review bonuses earned up until January 15th will be paid out for editorially accepted reviews. This is a temporary measure and the first review bonus will likely make a return in the future. Your current Earnings Summary page may still show first review bonuses until January 31st. An update to the system will remove any first review bonuses ‘earned’ from January 16th on at the end of the month. Please bare with us as we implement this change.

Product Review Limits – First 10 reviews

Take a look at the ***** *** cell phone page. Currently it has over 300 reviews. This page could cost us as much as $300. It would take us an awfully long time to make back that investment. There are many other products on the site that have similar review numbers. In order to control product specific costs we have implemented a cap for reviews payments by product. ComparedBy.Us will continue to pay $0.25 for quick reviews and $1.00 for extended reviews only for the first 10 reviews on a product. Reviews submitted for any product that already has 10 editorially accepted reviews will not be eligible for the Member Incentive Plan. This change will take effect with our code update today.

Category Payment Adjustments – Music, Movies and Books

We make significantly less revenue on Music, Movies and Books products than we do on any other product on our site. Even with the product review limits instituted above we would still find it difficult to break even within these categories. As a result we are lowering the review bonus for products in the Music, Movies and Books categories to $0.25 for the first 10 reviews effective January 16th. A system update on January 31st will update your earnings summary page totals for any reviews submitted to these categories as of January 16th.
