A cleaning service is a low maintenance type of business but you do need to make sure that you have everything you will need to keep your clients happy and yourself organized. If you are starting a commercial cleaning business, which is a bit bigger compared to a maid cleaning service, then you will need to keep tabs on your tools and equipment.
1. Have a uniform for your cleaning appointments. If it is just you, this would be relatively easy. A uniform will make you look professional and neat whenever you show up for cleaning services. If you have a cleaning crew, it would be a good idea to have your business name printed on the shirts they will be using. Aside from your clients identifying your crew, this would be a good form of marketing and advertisement for you.
2. Check all safety tools that you and your cleaning staff might need for the cleaning tasks they will be doing. You will need to have goggles to protect the eyes from inevitable splashes from cleaning solutions; another imperative are gloves to protect the hands when handling harmful cleaning agents – make sure these are skid resistant to avoid weightier tools like vacuum cleaners from slipping when being carried; sleeves to cover forearms and prevent injuries.
3. Purchase insurance and a bond that will cover you, your employees, your business, and any damages and lost items that you might become liable for. Clients need a guarantee that you will be handling their possessions safely and one way to make them comfortable is to have these two.
4. Have a compute and a printer that can take heavy workload – one way to cut your advertising and marketing costs is to design and print your own brochures and proposals. Although you may still have to advertise through newspapers and other print materials, you will have fewer expenses if you produce some of the materials you need for promoting your business right in your office. Aside from that, you need a computer to design and print your bid estimates, contracts, and other paperwork for your business.
5. You also need a phone line that is dedicated to your cleaning business. Especially if you work at home, there is a need to separate personal phone calls line from business calls. You would not want your clients getting a busy tone or waiting forever to get responded to, or being answered by your young daughter.
6. Tools and equipment for your cleaning tasks, even if your clients have their own are a must. You cannot keep on depending on the client’s equipment for all your cleaning tasks. Some customers prefer for you to use their own tools but some clients do not like keeping these cleaning tools in their office spaces.
7. A warehouse to keep all your cleaning equipment in may be necessary in the long run if you are running your business from home. Mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners, and cleaning agents may be dangerous to keep at home.
