Demo is very good if the same moves you're seeing on the demo are the same moves on the real account, Brokers such as FreshForex offers you demo which have the same moves as the real account. That makes it idea for people who want real life trading.

Demo account is helpful for any beginner trader to practice whatever they learnt. But it wont help you in long term as trading real account is much different than the real account. A lot of trading problems are to be faced while trading a real account and it can only be learned from the real account and real experience. So, i suggest people to use a small real account to help them get used to actual trading enviornment and the real trading problems.
