Default Anyone gone through credit repair

Has anyone used a credit repair company that worked? I'm wanting to buy a home in a year and have some work to do in order to repair a few credit issues. There seems to be many different offers out there and several ways to go about the process. Any advice would be welcome..

It's a waste of your money...Anything they can offer, you can do for yourself. They can't remove legitimately bad credit items. The only thing they do is dispute everything bad and see what, if any, gets removed. They will also help you draft an "excuse" for your credit lapses and have it added to your credit reports. Again, it's something you can do yourself.

If you get periodic copies of your credit reports, there will always be a claim form delivered with it. If you think something is wrong with an item, or if you just want to get it verified to be sure, list it on the claim form and then send the form back to the credit reporting company you received it from. They will request proof from the company(s) that made the report(s). If the company fails to respond within 30 days of the reporter's request, the item(s) get removed. Also, if you have anything negative that's over 7 years old and no longer active, it can be removed at your request (10 years with bankruptcies).

It's usually a good idea to dispute all negative items. Due to the way that finance companies buy and sell their debts and/or get bought and sold to larger companies, a lot of times the paper trail linking a bad debt to you will get lost in the shuffle of the reorganization. In these cases, there will be no response to the credit reporting company's request for verification and the bad item will get dropped. I've done my own for years now.

If a company is offering to make your record clean for a fee, it's a scam. Everything they offer for a fee is available free of charge to you from the credit reporting agencies and/or some non-profit credit counseling organizations.

    I hope this helps...

Dead on advice, and absolutely true, credit repair outfits are all rip-offs. You can do it all online for free, so get busy, spend a few minutes and address those issues on your report.

    Good luck to all, Mike
