Has anyone used a credit repair company that worked? I'm wanting to buy a home in a year and have some work to do in order to repair a few credit issues. There seems to be many different offers out there and several ways to go about the process. Any advice would be welcome..

They will request proof from the company(s) that made the report(s). If the company fails to respond within 30 days of the reporter's request, the item(s) get removed. Also, if you have anything negative that's over 7 years old and no longer active, it can be removed at your request (10 years with bankruptcies).
It's usually a good idea to dispute all negative items. Due to the way that finance companies buy and sell their debts and/or get bought and sold to larger companies, a lot of times the paper trail linking a bad debt to you will get lost in the shuffle of the reorganization. In these cases, there will be no response to the credit reporting company's request for verification and the bad item will get dropped. I've done my own for years now.
If a company is offering to make your record clean for a fee, it's a scam. Everything they offer for a fee is available free of charge to you from the credit reporting agencies and/or some non-profit credit counseling organizations.
I hope this helps...
