Last month I created a new email acct to use soley for a new p*** acct. for a family member. It has never been used to send or recieve any other emails. Last week it started recieving many spam messages. I opened one with no attachments, out of curiosity. It was a variation on the old nigerian scam. Someone sick in a hospital in Germany needs a person to collect outstanding debts in N. America for a percentage. Reply to an email address for details. Since no one outside the offices of p*** should have seen this email address how did the scammers get it?

Hi pmedic
This section of forum is for testimonials. You should take your post to the general chat section.

I looked for this in general chat and didnt' see it, so I'll reply here.
I have lots of those free emails that I've never used and watched them get filled up with spam. Hotmail, go.com, yahoo are all examples.
I believe they dsitribute or "leak" their client lists..
depending on your service provider, its a viable explanation

When creating a hotmail account, you have to be very carefull because on one of the pages in the setup wizard, MS has a clause that alows them to use this address for sending info BUT also share this address with 3th party's.
The choices are default enabled and you can easily disable them BUT they are all at the bottom of a large(high) page, so you only see these choice buttoms, if you scroll down.    For this reason, most people don't see them and receive lots more spam then expected. I don't say that when you disable the choices, that you don't receive any spam but at least it has a better start
For a MSM account, i am not sure but wouldn't be supprised it is the same.

For those that said this belongs in the General Chat section, it seems that this is the General Chat area to me unless my glasses are playing games on these old eyes.
