"This needs to be benchmarked weekly or monthly and if in six months it's not working, then you are going to have to take some tough decisions," Abdullah said in a public debate.

Bush discussed his new Iraq plan with Abdullah II and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak shortly after it was unveiled on January 10.

I don't believe he has six months at home though. This is something that will have to be seen in the next 90 to 120 days for political pressure to subside. Just my humble but inadequate opinion.

It is not the exchange that is subjected to a tax, but the capital gain on the currency that is taxable. Whether you have held the dinar for a year or more may greatly reduce the tax rate you pay on that gain. The burden of proof is on you so hang on to all receipts.

True in the US. But I know a guy in Polland that just got his dinars held up at customes for a $1300.00 USD Tax. He had recieved them before. But this time when the 2 million ($1800.00 in value) came thru, they were inspected and held-up. Now they are sending them back to the Orginator. Since he knows him, they will try agian to a Norway Address. Point, it depends where in the World you are. This was a exchange, and was going to be Taxed to cross the Border. Just alittle info. Appreciate it, if the tax subjects would please end up in the Tax Thread. Thanks.

I have been thinking about this situation regarding the proposed HCL and the Kurds objections to it being passed without their agreement on some of the details.

Iraq is now a democracy and that means "majority rules". The Kurds do not have a majority position in parliament. So, if parliament decides to go ahead and vote on the HCL as it stands (the final draft prepared by the Oil Commmittee) and the majority of parliament votes yes then it becomes law whether the Kurds like it or not.

The Kurds by themselves (nor any other group individually) cannot hold up passage of this law.

I know Iraq is new to the concept of democracy and perhaps they don't realize the significance of this concept, but any one of us who has lived through this sort of situation in our own countries is quite familiar with it. We often see laws passed by the majority party over objections from the minority parties. No democratic government that I'm aware of requires 100% approval in passing legislation through parliament.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
