$115 million shares on the Bourse in 2006
13 April 2007 (Iraq Directory)
An Iraqi official in Amman said yesterday that the Iraq market for securities held 93 sessions during which 58 billion shares were circulated at a value of 146 billion Iraqi dinar (115 million dollars) in 2006.
Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Iraqi market for securities, Talib Al-Tabatabae, said on the sidelines of a conference on banking work in Iraq held in Amman that the market, which includes 100 company, had carried out 93 circulation sessions last year by two meetings a week; he also announced that the Iraqi Stock Exchange will shift, after four months, from the paper circulation to the electronic one, saying that not all companies will be included at once because it is a new practice and deserves caution for fear of falling into error.
According to Al-Tabatabae, the Iraqi market for securities was established after the war on Iraq in 2003 but the deteriorating security situation affected the market situation and the circulation activity. The conference which was concluded last Thursday in Amman, and was organized by the Iraqi government in collaboration with the American Agency for International Development, discussed the banking work in Iraq and the challenges of the twenty-first century. The Conference was also attended by Iraqis and American government, as well as banks’ officials in Iraq and a number of representatives of Arab countries, the IMF and the World Bank

Abul-Gheit, Maliki to discuss means to lessen Iraq''s sufferings
Politics 4/13/2007 3:13:00 PM
Abul-Gheit, Maliki to discuss means to lessen Iraq's sufferings CAIRO, April 13 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Abul-Gheit asserted Friday that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki's visit here on April 20 would focus on means to help lessen the suffering of the Iraqi people.
Abul-Gheit told the press that Egypt was awaiting the visit in order to find means by which Cairo could help the Iraqi government and people to overcome the tough situation facing their country.
"The important point is to support the Iraqi government," said the Egyptian official.
Whether the upcoming Arab and international quartet meeting for the Israeli-Palestinian peace process to be held in Sharm Al-Sheikh would coincide with Iraq's neighboring countries conference, Abul-Gheit revealed that it was unlikely to occur, but stated that sideline meetings regarding the Iraqi issue could be held during that time.
Regarding Egyptian-US efforts to revive the Mideast peace efforts, he pointed out that David M. Satterfield, Senior Advisor on Iraq for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, would visit the country next Thursday to discuss such issues.
On the Egyptian-Turkish race to host the conference on Iraq, the Egyptian minister revealed that there was no such race, affirming that coordination with Turkey on this matter was superb.
