I have to disagree. At the rate Iraq is moving it will 50 years for them to rebuild the infrastructure needed to produce the a large amount of oil. The oil companies contracts are only 20 years so they will have to produce while they can before Iraq decides to take over all oil production themselves. One last point, let's not forget how little production Iraq has had over the past years. It will be much easier to produce Iraq than many of the companies' existing wells, seems to me they will cap their expensive wells in favor of the easy oil...

Mahdi Members Kill US Tipsters in Baghdad
Four Women Executed; Militia Penetrates Green Zone
    04/10/2007 09:00 AM ET

A US military helicopter flies over the Green Zone following a mortar attack on March 22.

Four Baghdad women have been executed by militia members for sharing information with US forces, according to Slogger’s local sources.
Slogger sources report that the murder of the four women in Washash was conducted by members of the Mahdi Army. Locals say that Mahdi Army associates accused the women of passing information to the American forces over the past few days.
Mahdi Army associates in Washash have declared that anyone giving any information about them to the Americans would be killed, Slogger sources report.
Apart from last week’s fighting in Diwaniya, the Mahdi Army has not confronted US forces directly in an organized way since the start of the Baghdad security plan in February, following orders from Muqtada al-Sadr to lie low. Sadrist spokespeople over the weekend have repeated their commitment to non-confrontation with US forces during the security plan.
However, Slogger sources have reported on several occasions that members of the Mahdi Army remains engaged in militant activities around the country, including sectarian attacks on Sunni neighborhoods, armed defense of Shi'a neighborhoods from sectarian attacks, and, as in Washash recently, enforcement of discipline on individuals suspected of going too far in their relationship with the United States.
The Mahdi Army’s network of enforcement extends even into the heavily fortified Green Zone, Slogger sources report. Mahdi Army members have told Slogger that many of the Iraqi guards and policemen working to in the zone are former Mahdi Army militiamen. Members of the militia even boasted to Slogger that “if they wanted to kill someone they could, even if he was in the Green Zone.” One Slogger source recognized Mahdi Army members working in uniform in the fortified district.
Tensions between the Mahdi Army and the US military are palpably increasing, Slogger sources say, as the US continues its searching operations in areas where the militia enjoys significant popularity. In al-Rashid, for example, the US has widened its house-to-house searching operations over the last few days, according to local residents.
It is not clear on whose orders the Mahdi Army has returned to arms, whether in Diwaniya where members have engaged in firefights with US forces over the weekend, or Baghdad, where members of the militia have been implicated in sectarian killing and disciplinary killings such as the recent murders in Washash. It is important to note that the Mahdi Army is not a unified organization with a centralized command. Many members of the militia are loyal to Muqtada al-Sadr, while many are neighborhood protection organizations or even local thugs who have taken the Mahdi Army name with varying degrees of consent from the Sadrist organization.
Slogger sources reported earlier that members of the Mahdi Army had clashed with Kurdish forces in al-Amin district, and militia members have been involved in armed activity around the city.
As the US continues to deploy its soldiers forward into Baghdad’s neighborhoods, relying heavily on “joint security centers” in urban areas, rather than remote bases, it has become increasingly reliant on tips and information from locals.
Rival forces appear to be just as aware of this US reliance on tips, and equally determined to deny the Americans of such knowledge.
