Iraq Oil, Gas, Petrochemical & Electricity Summit confirmed to take place in Dubai, UAE on 28-30 May 2007

In agreement with the Iraqi Government, the Iraq Development Program (IDP) is proud to announce that the official Iraq Oil, Gas, Petrochemical & Electricity Summit will now be taking place in Dubai, UAE on 28-30 May 2007.

For the most important sectors of the Iraqi economy, this historic landmark event will be the first of its kind since the formation of Iraq's Unity Government, with these key decision makers participating with the full intent of establishing relationships and entering into contractual negotiations with all international operators wishing to be part of both the upstream and downstream sectors.

Iraq has the world’s second largest proven oil reserves and the Government is now finalising its new hydrocarbon laws, following the declaration of the investment law for Iraq’s extractive industries. The timing of this summit could not be better.

The summit will welcome representation from the Iraqi Ministries of Oil, Industry & Minerals and Electricity, as well as the Iraq Energy Council, Investment Promotion Agency and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministries of Natural Resources, Industry and Electricity. It will also host many of the state companies operating under the Iraqi Ministry of Oil and senior representatives from the Iraq Reconstruction Management Office (IRMO).

All attending Iraqi Ministries will be outlining the requirements for their relevant sectors in front of the senior corporate audience, before holding private consultations with some of the pre-eminent operators within the global energy sector.

These best-in-breed operators and companies will be represented at board level, with the summit having attracted interest from the likes of Shell, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, Lukoil, Total, Statoil, Marathon Oil, Kuwait National Petroleum, Schlumberger, Oracle, Technology Partners, ABB, BHP Billiton, General Electric, Siemens, Cummins Power, Pratt & Whitney, Bukkehave, Control Risks, Sumitomo, Babcock, AMEC, Mitsubishi, Marubeni, Wartsila, Deutz, Mitsui, Honeywell and a variety of medium-sized operators as well as leading Russian and Asian companies.

Furthermore, the summit will ensure the involvement of leading Iraqi businesses and families. A central pillar of the Iraq Development Program is to promote greater employment in Iraq through partnerships and to allow for international operators to meet with local Iraqi operators to explore partnering opportunities.

Lower demand for dollar in daily auction

Baghdad, Apr 25, (VOI) – Demand for the dollar decreased in the Iraqi Central Bank’s daily auction on Wednesday, reaching $63.975 million compared with $83.140 million on Tuesday.
In its daily statement the bank said it had covered all bids, which included $7.735 million in cash and $56 million in foreign transfers, at an exchange rate of 1,270 dinars per dollar, unchanged from Monday.
Twelve banks participated in Tuesday's auction and offered to sell two million dollars. The Iraqi Central Bank bought the entire amount at 1,270 per Iraqi dinar.
Ali al-Yasseri, a trader at the auction, told VOI "the decline in demand for the dollar in today's session was partially due to the decrease in bids for dollars in foreign transfers at the session, and partially due to speculations that the bank will not change the exchange rate at auction until next week."
The Iraqi Central Bank runs a daily auction from Sunday to Thursday.

you get ahold of that fat jamaican tracey?? you musta coz you cant believe that if iraq revalues their currency anyone would give them debt relief. at that point the payback would seem more assured and they would demand their full payment of debt.

Kuwait ready for raising diplomatic representation with IraqThe Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser al-Muhammad al-Ahmed al-Subah on Tuesday expressed his country's readiness to raise its diplomatic representation with Iraq to the ambassadorial level.
"Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki met on Tuesday his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Nasser al-Muhammad al-Ahmed al-Subah who expressed his country's readiness to raise its diplomatic representation with Iraq to the ambassadorial level," Maliki's office said in a statement received by the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

The statement added "Maliki had also upon his arrival in Kuwait talks with Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah and his Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah as well as the prime minister."

"The meeting centered on issues of mutual interests and means to bolster bilateral ties in various domains," the statement added.

"The prime minister updated the Kuwaiti officials with the Iraqi government's efforts to realize national reconciliation in the country," it noted.

"He also noted that Fardh al-Qanoon security plan's main aim is to impose order and continue reconstruction operations and provide services," the statement highlighted.

Maliki's visit comes as a part of his current regional tour to negotiate ways of achieving success at the Sharm El-Sheikh-hosted international conference on Iraq, due early next month.

Maliki arrived in Kuwait on Tuesday morning coming from Cairo.
