Docking fee. Yes, I know...lots of money here in RI. and hard to find a slip.

RI, the Ocean state, is the smallest state in the nation and everyone wants a boat....too many people here!!!

Maybe I should go someplace else? BUT I am afraid of water snakes we just have eels...

Why are you afraid of water snakes? The majority of them are a little aggressive but are non-poisonous. Unless you just have a thing about snakes period. Around here the only ones we have to be concerned about are the cottonmouth. But they are easy to tell apart from the regular brown watersnakes. A cottonmouth does not lay still in the water, some part of them is always moving. Sorta like they have a nervous twitch or something! lol. anyway, good luck, hope you get what you are looking for.

When I grew up my parents had a 1950 42 ft. Chris Craft. We use to live on the boat in the summer. It was so much fun. Dad didnt take it out very often being he had to fillup 2-200 gallon tanks when we went on trips. But that was the life! Had 2 bathrooms, tub in one, king size and twin in the back, 2-V bunks at the front. Galley table folded down to sleep 2 and the couch was queen size. In the summer we too use to sleep on the bridge. However we did have AC inthe boat. Lots of work on older boats. between sanding, taking care of dry rot inthe winter, and painting, then in the summer scrubbing the teak and polishing the brass and chrome. It still was fun. As us kids grew up dad got rid of the chris craft and then purchased a houseboat. again they use to live on the boat all summer. Full galley spa tub nice sleeping quarters. He too only had to pay for his slip which included water and electricity and a telephone line. However youreally dont need a telephone line anymore. We use to dock off Lake St. Clair in Michigan and of course once a year travel down to Lake Erie and also up to Huron. I had a dingy that I converted to a sailboat and us kids use to fish all the time. Walley, perch, lg. mouth bass. Was fun. Alwasy threw away the catfish. Dads rule, you catch it you clean it, you share it!

I thought maybe I would do that as there is no RI taxes to buy or maintain a boat just the registration fee.

    thanks, Laura
    Interesting,

Yes, it can be very expensive to dock a boat and since they charge by the foot, the bigger the more expensive. I lived on a boat for a several months as I was refurbishing it and it was truly a unique experience and everyone should try it, but next time I do, I won't be working on my own boat. (g)

The problem with NE docking is you cannot leave boat in water all year unless you add airators to keep water from freezing, so it would be a short season in RI. Of course, you can always head to warmer waters in the winter, sure would work for me.

The least expensive way to live onboard is to moor just off shore, then you don't have any dock fees. You use solar for power and small generator and you are all set. I have always had a dream of building home on old barge so I could have the best of both worlds, be on the water, but have the room of a full size home. Someday soon, very soon, always nice to dream.

Good luck and health to all, Mike

Growing up we would always head to Grandma's house
each year for vacation, it was in Ages, Kentucky about as far southeast as
    you could go in Kentucky.
Anyways, for the longest time all she had was the 2-seater outhouse, why
anyone would want 2 seats is beyond me, however there was no carpeting.
It was very scary walking up the hill in the backyard late at night, we just
weren't use to that kind of thing where we came from, but when you gotta'
    go you gotta' go.
I learned to hold my breath for long periods of time going in there. lol

Grandma was such a sweetheart, if we only had to tinkle she would say
"Honey, if the nieghbors aint' out just go over the side of the back porch
    and it will be fine."
The task ahead of you is never as
great as the POWER behind you.

    Interesting,

Good way of looking at things that happen in your life, nicely put, should be something everyone reads, sure made my day. (g)

    >
    >The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the

    >The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
    >Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if

    >
    >The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and

    >
    >"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no
