An MP from the Unified Iraqi Coalition (UIC) said on Thursday that Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has no intention of changing his candidates for the six portfolios whose names were presented to the parliament two weeks ago for voting.
"The premier will present the names once again in two weeks," Hassan al-Sanied told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI), noting that al-Maliki adjourned the voting process after the Sadrist bloc expressed their rejection of the proposed names.
"Iraqi Accordance Front (IAF), the third largest parliamentary bloc, also rejected the premier's candidates," the lawmaker also said.
"Efforts are being exerted by al-Maliki to convince the Sadrist bloc and IAF of the proposed names so he can achieve the parliamentary majority required to approve the reshuffle," al-Sanied added, pointing out that these efforts may need two weeks.
"The prime minister assigned other ministers to take over the affairs of the six ministries until the appointment of new ministers," the legislator stated.
The Sadr movement decided last April to withdraw its six ministers from the Iraqi government, protesting the government's refusal to set a timetable for the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country.
The movement of Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr had six portfolios and a total of 30 seats out of the 275-member parliament. It is a main component of the Shiite Unified Iraqi Coalition, the largest parliamentary bloc with 113 seats, to which Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki belongs.

NOTE: Muqtada al-Sadr appears to be the King Maker within the Parliament because his people show up and vote...his people have blocked the PM on this and got the Parliament to do two resolutions on the removal of US Troops and stripped the PM of his ability to extend the 15 June 2007 UN Manadate under which US Troops operate without NOW the approval of Parliament - without that being renewed at the request of the Iraqis then the US would have no legal, international authority to stay in Iraq other than as an Army of Invasion. Wait for this issue to heat up!
