THE CONSTUTIONAL COMMITTEE GIVEN ANOTHER MONTH'S EXTENSION

this is important because the oil law, 140 and Sunni Civil Rights are part of the package they were to give to Parliament on the 15th then the 20th of June...This is important, as till they present the amendments to the Parliament...no one can vote...this is why the President can take off for a week to go to China.

Here is what the President said today before leaving for China:

And he stressed His Excellency President Talabani, in a press statement following the meeting, the need for the Commission to reach consensual modifications necessary to ensure unite all Iraqis on their constitution and to the Permanent Constitution represents all Iraqis.

Also, praised Vice President Dr Adel Abdul Mahdi and Tariq Al-Hashmi efforts made by the constitutional amendments, noting that the report of the Committee needs to be considered in drafting the technical and legal, which requires the Commission to extend the work an additional month.

I agree, 2 pages back there's an article that states the deadline is approaching as in June 30th

I know we all want this to happen like yesterday, but regardless of whether you think this is a smokescreen or not, I wouldn't discount the fact that the GOI have been blowing this so called "smokescreen" for a while now so don't be surprised if this deadline gets pushed back again. They know the US would never back down and pull out of there so what's another month to them.

im sorry but i dont see anywhere in this that they say AT THE EARLIEST LAST OF JULY. i see you saying it but not them at all. i tend to believe the al sabaah article from earlier that said it was advancing well. remember that the extension could be to accomodate one or two or three days past a deadline but doesnt necessarily mean they will need all 30 days.

considering al sabaah is the iraqi government report i would think they would be closer to factual info on this.

AND .... WITH THE FEAR OF THEM GETTING THEIR TAILS SHOT OFF, I WOULDN'T THINK THEY WOULD POST ANY SURE DATE FOR ANYTHING. THE GREEN ZONE IS GETTING SHELLED. MAXIMUM AIR AND GROUND PROTECTION SHOULD BE PROVIDED FOR THEM TO MEET WITHOUT FEAR FOR THEIR LIVES.

To me it does not state that it will be implemented but only suggests that it be considered.



Iraqi Presidential Council urges the Commission to amend the constitution to reach a compromise amendments

BAGHDAD : Iraqi Presidency Council urged the Commission to amend the constitution to reach a compromise amendments to unite Iraqis behind a permanent constitution.

A statement issued by the office of the Iraqi president deployed here today that members of the Presidency listened to a detailed explanation by the Chairman of the constitutional amendments in the House of Representatives, Dr. Humam Hamoudi, members of the Committee Fouad Massoum, Iyad al-Samarra'i on the latest developments in the amended clause of the Constitution.
The Committee members during their meeting at the residence of the President of the Republic Baghdad achieved during the past period and the issues that it is hoped will soon be completed in addition to the obstacles facing them in the workplace.
