Two suspected al-Qaeda leaders, 7 others detained in Coalition raids
BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition Forces killed one terrorist and detained nine suspected terrorists during raids around the country Wednesday and Thursday targeting al-Qaeda in Iraq senior leaders and operatives.
Thursday morning, Coalition Forces targeted an al-Qaeda in Iraq explosives consultant suspected of helping improvised explosive device cells west of Baghdad. As the ground forces entered the objective site, they encountered an armed man. Acting in self-defense, Coalition Forces engaged the man, killing him.
During the raid, another armed man emerged from an adjoining room within the building. Coalition Forces reacted in self-defense and engaged the armed man, wounding him. He was treated by medical personnel on site. Coalition Forces detained three suspected terrorists during the operation. Another raid Thursday morning netted one suspected terrorist allegedly involved with al-Qaeda in the Tarmiyah area.
Coalition Forces captured the al-Qaeda in Iraq administrative emir of a Baghdad neighborhood during a raid Wednesday. The individual is suspected of handling logistics and financing for terrorists cells in the area, and arranging for movement of operatives for the organization. The ground forces also detained three individuals suspected of associating with him.
“We’re continuing to target all levels of the al-Qaeda in Iraq organization, and are disrupting both their leadership structure and operations,” said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson.

Six Suspected Terrorists Detained and One Killed by Coalition Forces in Two Separate Raids
BAGHDAD, Iraq – Coalition Forces killed one terrorist and detained six suspected terrorists before dawn Thursday in and near Sadr City. It is believed that the suspected terrorists were affiliated with secret cell Special Groups.
Coalition Forces conducted two raids to capture or kill terrorists suspected of providing logistical support to insurgent groups. Intelligence reports indicate that the suspected terrorists targeted during the raid were connected with other key secret cell terrorist leaders and are suspected to have ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps – Quds Forces.
During the first raid, Coalition Forces were fired upon by terrorists. Coalition Forces returned fire in accordance with the rules of engagement killing one terrorist. There were no Coalition Forces casualties. Coalition Forces confiscated automatic weapons, communications equipment and personal body armor during the raid. In the second raid, Coalition Forces grabbed a single, suspected terrorist without firing a shot.
“Coalition troops will continue to target terrorists who have a penchant for killing Coalition Forces, Iraqi Security Forces and innocent Iraqis.” said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesman. “Coalition Forces will target secret cells wherever they are.”

Baqouba Tribal Council meets to address concerns
Multi-National Division – North PAO
BAQOUBA, Iraq – Nine Baqouba tribal leaders, the mayor of Baqouba, the Diyala Operations Center (DOC) commander and the commander of Coalition Forces in Diyala met for the first time Wednesday to address concerns of the people of Baqouba, Iraq.
The sheiks, who are part of the newly-formed Baqouba Tribal Council, gathered at the Government Center in Baqouba to discuss issues pertaining to security, economics and government services.
“Today’s meeting was vital in the way ahead as the tribal leaders are true representatives of their people,” said Col. David W. Sutherland, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division commander, whose troops are responsible for Diyala province. “There is strength through unity; and as the people continue to grow tired of the hatred al-Qaida brings, the tribal leaders play a key role in that unity.”
During the meeting, Staff Maj. Gen. Abdul Kareem, the DOC commander, addressed the leaders’ concerns of security, focusing on the recent success with ongoing operations in Baqouba, and the need for people to turn to the security forces for help.
Also, Kareem and Sutherland stressed the need to hire new Iraqi police officers from the Baqouba neighborhoods so the force would be representative of its people.
“The terrorists are continually trying to build a wedge between the people, the security forces and the government,” Sutherland added. “In order to prevent the terrorists from driving that wedge, strong working relationships between the government, the security forces and the tribes are necessary.”
Following the meeting, the leaders gathered for a feast and tea to continue building their relationship and working toward a stable and secure future for their people.

Iraqi Air Force delivers water, displays proficiency
13th SC(E), LSA ANACONDA PAO
CAMP ADDER, Iraq – Iraqi soldiers got a big boost in national pride and confidence Monday as they watched an Iraqi Air Force C-130 deliver fresh water to Camp Delta.
The fledgling Iraqi Air Force conducted this, its first logistical operation, to provide fresh bottled drinking water while keeping convoys off the uncertain roads.
The aircraft delivered the equivalent of roughly five truck loads of palletized water. This means keeping those trucks and the necessary security trucks that would accompany them off the roadway, said Lt. Col. Jeffrey Drushal, support operations officer in charge for the 82nd Sustainment Brigade.
This was a coalition effort. When the Iraqi cargo plane landed at Camp Delta, it was directed to a safe landing by Polish air control operators.

Thanks Lewscrew!
This thread has been needed for a long time! I am sorry that I didn't think of it myself. I love reading positive posts about our soldiers and their mission. I can't fathom why the American press can't print a balance of info. that includes some of these articles also.
Maybe include some from Michael Yon's web site. He is doing a terrific job with his reports of our couragious soldiers.
Thanks again,
Ice

IAs, GIs bring security to Arab Jabour
Thursday, 05 July 2007
By Sgt. Luis Delgadillo
Multi-National Division-Central Public Affairs
PATROL BASE MURRAY — Soldiers of 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, in conjunction with soldiers from the Iraqi army’s 6th Division, have been hard at work in Arab Jabour, steadily clearing the area of al-Qaida and other insurgent forces.
Lt. Col. Ken Adgie, commander of the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, from Fort Stewart, Ga., said Operation Guardian Torch succeeded in denying safety and freedom of movement to insurgents in the region.
Adgie said since Guardian Torch began, 400 buildings have been cleared, 250 people have been added to the ‘wanted list,’ and more than 30 people have been detained.
“We are about 75 percent complete. We have a few more weeks ahead of us and the outlook is very positive,” said Adgie, a native of National Park, N.J.
“With our work, the Iraqi army forces here, and the local leaders helping us, I think Arab Jabour will be a great place to live.”
Adgie said the most important accomplishment thus far is that his Soldiers and the IA soldiers here have started building a level of trust and confidence with the Iraqi people.
Though the contingent of Iraqi soldiers is small, they have been able to make a good impression on the Soldiers of Company B, 1-30th Inf.
“They basically put an Iraqi face on every mission that we do and it shows the people that the Iraqi army cares about the government as much as we do,” said 2nd Lt.James T. Reynolds, 3rd platoon leader for Co. B.
Reynolds said the IA soldiers working with him are well trained and help them accomplish the mission.
Reynolds, a native of Gainesville, Fla., said the mission is very important because it lets the residents know that they’re not going to just sit back and let the terrorists take control of their country, city, or town.
In addition to providing extra boots on ground for Co. B, the Iraqi soldiers also contribute in other ways.
Pfc. Kyle Zane Rowin, an infantryman with 3rd platoon, said that they are able to breakdown cultural barriers that exist between U.S. Soldiers and residents of Arab Jabour.
“It’s great; it goes hand in hand. They teach you about their culture and you teach them about yours,” he said.
