    Baghdad

Iraq has been granted $6.6 million to finance its first nationwide census since 1993 so it can draft a poverty reduction plan, the World Bank said.

The World Bank-administered multi-donor Iraq Trust Fund offered two grants: $5.1 million to finance the survey on income, spending and living standards and $1.5 million for training on analyzing the results.

One generation ago Iraq's income and education and health indicators were high compared with regional averages, but they have since fallen to among the lowest in the region, the World Bank said.

‘Modern systems for data collection and dissemination are essential for providing Iraq's policymakers with reliable information on which to base their decisions,’ said World Bank Country Director Joseph Saba.

“This project will enable Iraq's government to establish a poverty line, develop policies to reduce poverty and increase employment, and target social assistance to the neediest.’ The results should also help Baghdad set the best sequence of reforms to ease poverty and improve employment, Saba said.

The World Bank's Iraq Trust Fund has funded 13 projects amounting to nearly $400 million.”-

    interesting no?

?#1 Do they need the Census records before any rv?
I would think not, but it may help.
#2 Don't they have an idea of the poverty line, because of ration cards?
Or do they hand them out just a few people?

$400 mil is a good amount, I wonder what the other projects are?

    Washington

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of a possible sale to Iraq of one AN/FPS-117 or TPS-77 Long Range Air Traffic Control Radar, as well as associated equipment and services.

The total value, if all options are exercised, could be as high as $142 million, said a statement.

The Government of Iraq has requested a possible sale of one AN/FPS-117 or TPS-77 Long Range Air Traffic Control Radar, support equipment, management support, spare and repair parts, supply support, training, publications and technical data, US Government and contractor technical assistance and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $142 million.

This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the US by helping to improve the security of a friendly country. This proposed sale directly supports the Iraqi government and serves the interests of the Iraqi people and the US.

This proposed sale will enhance the foreign policy and national security objectives of the US by enhancing Iraq's capacity to support US government efforts in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), as well as supporting Iraq's legitimate need for military independence.

The proposed sale of this radar will provide more responsive and timely information for air defence operations. This radar will contribute to the modernisation of obsolete radars in Iraq's air defense radar system. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not affect the basic military balance in the region.

The prime contractor will be: Lockheed-Martin Aeronautics Company of Syracuse, New York
