Briefly: Threat to Green Zone over, lockdown ends
    Reuters, The Associated Press

    Published: October 1, 2006

BAGHDAD A nervous normality returned to the Iraqi capital Sunday after the lifting of an extreme 24-hour curfew that was imposed after U.S. troops arrested a top politician's bodyguard suspected of a plot to bomb the heavily fortified Green Zone.

The curfew was lifted at 6 a.m., and traffic converged on central Baghdad's busy streets as shops and businesses reopened.

Though curfews have become part of life here, on Saturday all movement, even on foot, was banned, disrupting the social life normally associated with the holy month of Ramadan.
On Friday, U.S. troops arrested a security guard at the home of the leader of the main Sunni Arab political bloc, Adnan al-Dulaimi. They said the man planned suicide attacks in the Green Zone and may have had links to Al Qaeda. (Reuters)

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency has notified Congress of a possible sale to Iraq of one AN/FPS-117 or TPS-77 Long Range Air Traffic Control Radar, as well as associated equipment and services.

The total value, if all options are exercised, could be as high as $142 million, said a statement.

The Government of Iraq has requested a possible sale of one AN/FPS-117 or TPS-77 Long Range Air Traffic Control Radar, support equipment, management support, spare and repair parts, supply support, training, publications and technical data, US Government and contractor technical assistance and other related elements of logistics support. The estimated cost is $142 million.

This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the US by helping to improve the security of a friendly country. This proposed sale directly supports the Iraqi government and serves the interests of the Iraqi people and the US.

This proposed sale will enhance the foreign policy and national security objectives of the US by enhancing Iraq's capacity to support US government efforts in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), as well as supporting Iraq's legitimate need for military independence.

The proposed sale of this radar will provide more responsive and timely information for air defence operations. This radar will contribute to the modernisation of obsolete radars in Iraq's air defense radar system. The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not affect the basic military balance in the region.

The prime contractor will be: Lockheed-Martin Aeronautics Company of Syracuse, New York

142million$=208,740 million dinar...I don't even know how to break that down--is that Trillions of dinar at today's rate?? Again...we are talking about laying a solid foundation for Iraq's future...building infrastructure-not out of chicken wire and duct tape--but bricks and mortar. So far NONE of the articles have spoken directly to a pending Reval...but all of them point in the general direction...I think of all of these articles as bricks in the road to security, solvency and success in Iraq. Individually, they don't mean much, but laid out side by side, and they point a clear path to our common goal. What benefits the Iraqi's benefits us.

Analysis: Kurd oil feud is Iraq's future:

    WASHINGTON, 29 September 2006 (UPI)

The head of the Kurdistan Regional Government has threatened to break away from Iraq in a dispute over control of oil resources, revealing deeper fragmentation between provincial and federal governance.

The prime minister of the KRG, Nechirvan Barzani, said Wednesday the relatively stable northern region -- autonomous since 1991 -- might break from the fragile tripartite republic if oil contracts it has signed aren't recognized by the government in Baghdad.

Their rift represents more than a squabble over federalism's reach, but a country occupied by foreign troops, progress stalled by daily violence, moving toward total fracture.

Key leaders in parliament reached a tentative deal Sunday quelling attempts, for now, to amend the constitution to allow more autonomy for the regions. The Kurds as well as a faction of Shiites in the oil-rich south are in favor of this, while it's opposed by the minority Sunnis in the oil-barren middle of the country and a Shiite bloc eyeing a prominent role in a stronger, centralized government.

Major oil companies have stayed away because of the regional dispute, experts say.

and will continue to stand aside should this dispute continue. The Kurds are no fools and know this. They are the engine that will move this car...they'll get the Iraqi gov'mint to put the laws in place, and to their satisfaction...My opinion, but I seriously doubt they'll seceed, or start any kind of violent conflict--not until after the oil infrastructure (contracts, rigs and pipelines) are in place, because they know that a war can be bad for buisness

Iraq Central Bank to apply International Standards Concerning Sufficiency of Capitals

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know this one has been post but please read again this article :))

    27 September 2006 (Al-Sharq al-Awsat)

The source added in a statement during the economic session, about the role of banks in the economic reformation process, held in the Ministry of Industry and Metals that Iraqi Central Bank is working fast to take an active role in the economic stability process in the country. The Bank is trying to dispense with some of mechanisms that were prevailing during the time of the ex-regime, especially lending governmental institutions. Therefore, there are serious studies about the possibility of starting and developing a governmental exchange market that will provide all institutions with cash fluidity as fast as possible. In addition, this will enable individuals and capital owners to find new types of guaranteed local investments and limit their running away outside the country.
The same source declared that Iraqi Central Bank is fully independent. It is exhorting great efforts to achieve a stable financial policy that will enhance Iraqi economy and rebuild it through several constructive steps.

Looks like they are anticipating time of massive rebuilding...provide all isntitutions with cash fluidity as fast as possible...could it be they are anticipating a massive rebuilding effort?

    U.S.-Iraq
U.S. Congress delegation arrives in Baghdad
Baghdad, Oct 1, (VOI) – A U.S. Congress delegation arrived on Sunday in a surprise visit to Baghdad, Iraqi Prime Minister’s office said.
“The U.S. delegation would meet Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki later on Sunday,” a source at the Prime Minister’s office told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
The source who did not give further details said no press conference would be given after the meeting.
Official sources told VOI :“ Maliki will discuss with the Congressmen the latest political and security developments and the national reconciliation in Iraq.”

U.S.-Iraq :: Aswat al Iraq :: Aswat al Iraq

So a US delegation is going over to a very dangerous region to discuss the latest positive developments so they can bring back FIRST HAND accounts of all the GOOD THINGS happening in Iraq...Hmm and this right before mid-term elections.

Folks...Like I said, none of this speaks directly to a reval. No time frames, no amounts....It's easy to get discouraged...easy to burn out. Remember any progress is good. The road to a prosperous Iraq (read reval) is paved with many many stones...

how do I say this....These news articles and others are the foundation upon which I've built my dinar hopes and dreams. SGS and others keep me going with their inside info...but it's the SOLID NEWS coming day after day from Iraq that helps me to weather each day that passes without a reval. There are SOLID REASONS to be excited....firm facts with which you can fortify your faith!!

Keep the faith y'all...it won't be too much longer...OSWoman
