Zee News - Al-Qaeda`s new Iraq chief killed: Arab TV

Dubai, Oct 05: Al-Arabiya television reported on Thursday that the new chief of the al-Qaeda network in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri, has been killed by US troops.

The Dubai-based channel quoted security sources as saying that US forces killed Masri and three other militants in a raid yesterday in Haditha, near the capital Baghdad. There was no immediate confirmation.

An Iraqi government official had said on Sunday that Masri`s "days are numbered" after showing the first video images of the wanted man, who replaced slain former Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

On Friday the new al-Qaeda leader, also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajer, had also broadcast an internet audio message threatening a renewed offensive and a campaign to kidnap foreigners.

Masri`s identity was first revealed by the US military in July, after the June killing of his predecessor and al-Qaeda in Iraq founder Zarqawi, a Jordanian-born Sunni Muslim extremist.

Masri was described as an Egyptian emigre with an extensive knowledge of explosives. The footage showed a bespectacled man with an Egyptian accent explaining how to rig a car with bombs.

"I can say we are very close to Abu Ayyub al-Masri and we say to him your days are numbered," Iraqi national security advisor Muwaffaq al-Rubaie told a news conference on Sunday. "Either your dead body or manacled hands will be brought before justice."

Iraqi officials use DNA to determine if slain militant was al-Qaida leader

This photo purports to show Abu Ayyub al-Masri, al-Qaida in Iraq leader. (AP Photo/U.S. Military) BAGHDAD (AP) - Iraqi officials are performing DNA tests on a slain militant to determine if he is al-Qaida in Iraq leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri, the deputy interior minister said Thursday. But the U.S. military said it was "highly unlikely" the terror chief had been killed.
An Iraqi Defence Ministry spokesman, Mohammed al-Askari, told Al-Arabiya television that the body "is not that of al-Masri." But he did not say whether the DNA testing had been completed.

U.S. military spokesman Lt. Col. Barry Johnson said a number of al-Qaida suspects were killed in a recent raid in western Anbar province and initially "we thought there was a possibility al-Masri was among them."

"As we did further analysis, we determined that it was highly unlikely that he was killed," Johnson told The Associated Press.

Deputy Interior Minister Maj. Gen. Hussein Kamal said the raid took place two days ago. Al-Arabiya and Al-Jazeera television reported that the militants were killed by U.S. forces during a raid near Haditha.

"We suspect one of those killed is Abu Ayyub al-Masri. We are holding DNA tests to find out if he is," Kamal told the AP.

He and Johnson did not give further details.

Al-Masri, also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, took over al-Qaida in Iraq after Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed June 7 in a U.S. air strike northeast of Baghdad.

On Sunday, Iraq's national security adviser, Mouwafak al-Rubaie, told reporters U.S. and Iraqi forces were closing in on al-Masri.

But on Wednesday, U.S. military spokesman Maj. Gen. William Caldwell sounded more skeptical.

"I'd love to tell you we're going to get him tonight," he told reporters. "But, obviously, that's a very key, critical target for all of us operating here in Iraq. . . . We feel very comfortable that we're continuing to move forward very deliberately in an effort to find him and kill or capture him."

Caldwell said a personal assistant to al-Masri had been captured in a Sept. 28 raid in Baghdad, the second figure close to the al-Qaida in Iraq chief to be captured that month. "We're obviously gleaning some key critical information from those individuals and others that have been picked up," he said.

U.S. officials said al-Masri joined an extremist group led by al-Qaida's No.2 official in 1982. He joined al-Qaida training camps in Afghanistan in 1999 and trained as a car bombing expert before travelling to Iraq after the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

Ten thousand dinars grants every citizen the occasion of Eid Al Fitr.

(Voice of Iraq) - 05-10-2006 | This issue was sent to a friend

Ten thousand dinars grants every citizen the occasion of Eid Al Fitr.
Baghdad / Nina / Cabinet decided to grant ten thousand dinars of every citizen on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.

    Sotaliraq.com

Eid al-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal, the month which follows Ramadan in the Islamic calendar. It is a time to give in charity to those in need, and celebrate with family and friends the completion of a month of blessings and joy.
Before the day of Eid, during the last few days of Ramadan, each Muslim family gives a determined amount as a donation to the poor. This donation is of actual food -- rice, barley, dates, rice, etc. -- to ensure that the needy can have a holiday meal and participate in the celebration. This donation is known as sadaqah al-fitr (charity of fast-breaking).

On the day of Eid, Muslims gather early in the morning in outdoor locations or mosques to perform the Eid prayer. This consists of a sermon followed by a short congregational prayer.

After the Eid prayer, Muslims usually scatter to visit various family and friends, give gifts (especially to children), and make phone calls to distant relatives to give well-wishes for the holiday.

These activities traditionally continue for three days. In most Muslim countries, the entire 3-day period is an official government/school holiday.

Thanks for the assurance! Ok, but does anyone know roughly what would constitute the FIL. Is the FIL worthless based on the current value of the dinar and until and unless they revalue to a respectable level does it become a worthwhile law in effect? Would there be caveats within the FIL to limit the percentage of ownership for foreign investors thereby ensuring that they do not buy up the whole country whilst riding on this same low rate of dinar to the dollar? Hope I made sense with my questions! If not, let me know!
