Iraqi Parliament lift the diplomatic immunity of one of its members
(Voice of Iraq) - 08-10-2006 | This issue was sent to a friend
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi parliament voted on Sunday in a step unprecedented in favor of lifting the diplomatic immunity of the Vice Sunni warrant issued for his arrest in charges of corruption.
After discussing the arena approved in the 141-member parliament to this procedure to lift the immunity of MP Mashaan al-Jabouri, who heads the small bloc in the parliament consisting of 275 seats, but he did not attend its meetings ever.
That could pave the way for this action further action against officials suspected of involvement in corruption crimes.
He said Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Almshahadani he supported lifting the immunity of the target in order to be able to return to Parliament if it appears that he is innocent until he could be brought to justice if found guilty.
He continued amid applause from members of Parliament sharply that there must be no obstacles to the Iraqi people and is also imperative that there is a possibility of even the appearance of the country's president to justice.

maybe, maybe not
Okay, where's the brain trust--Adster, OSW, SGS?? Is it economically possible for them to dole out this money before the reval? According to the little calculator on my computer 300 bil dinars=203,527,815--203.5 million dollars. Is it possible that they specified the rate in the article as a way of saying "hey that's 300 bil AT TODAY'S RATE" ?
It's already been debated about how the rv WON'T create a bunch of Iraqi millionaires because the average Iraqi doesn't have much saved...and I remember a post a while back about how the average Iraqi would be pissed about a reval because they didn't know ahead of time and didn't have the opportunity to save any money...something like that...
Well, what if the government gives out this money to it's citizens...pre-reval and does the reval immediately after--203.5 million dollars isn't THAT much money...the real gift to the people would be the reval....thoughts anyone?Last edited by ordinaryseawoman; 08-10-2006 at 01:14 PM.

Zubaidi:Monetary value of the Iraqi dinar must revert to the previous level, or at least to acceptable levels as it is in the Iraqi neighboring states.
Shabibi:The bank wants as a means to affect the economic and monetary policy by making the dinar a valuable and powerful.

Here is a thought... 10,000 dinars at say a reval rate of 1.47 is 14,700 per person. Although that seems like a lot we have to remember that right now Iraqi's are rationed expenses like utilities, food, gas, just about every possible necessity is provided by the government (not nearly enough to live out of poverty) and what little money they do have they use for extra gas on the black market, or food, etc. I did not realize this until my husband mentioned it and he just recently got back from a 14 month deployment in Iraq in Tikrit which was very much poverty stricken. Also I did read in one of the news articles that the government of Iraq wants to eventually eliminate the ration cards and Iraqi's would be responsible for their own basics which currently are rationed. This would save the government money and of course help the economy. Just a thought. But when you think of 14,700 dinars after a reval and consider that most Iraqi's do not have a savings and will need to rebuild and pay for all of their necessities then this amount really is not unreasonable.

Also do we know that the 10,000 dinars is being distributed pre-eval....from all the chatter lately it looks like we could reval any day anytime....most likely this week. They could give the ration cards out after the reval...we are only talking the difference of days here....just a thought.

Well adster, I have to agree here. Along with your judgement (Never taking anything from you) and OSW stating what he did ,together with all the news, that just does it for me. I am not a expert in this arena. But I have been reading everypost for the past 5 months , along at times contributing myself with some research. Time allowed. Not near aslong as you guys. So for me personally, this is a very exciting time. Dang, I will owe Raditzs bigtime.Last edited by neno; 08-10-2006 at 02:12 PM.
