Fire sparks explosions at Baghdad ammo dump
BAGHDAD (CNN) -- A fire at an ammunition dump late Tuesday sparked a series of powerful explosions and a massive fire at a small U.S. base in southwestern Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

The blasts, some of which shook buildings at least four miles away, have been continuing for more than an hour.

The cause of the fire at Forward Operating Base Falcon is unknown, officials said.

No casualties have been reported, according to Iraqi emergency police and the U.S. military. (Posted 5:44 p.m.)

Ok, at about 2:00 AM Bagdad time there were a serious of explosions at a military amunitions base in south bagdad lasting up to 3 hours. The explosions when off one after another. They are saying it has died down now and the fire and situation are under control.

There are no reported casualties at this time and it appears that there was safe evacuation of military personnel. There was obvious panic in Bagdad. The base is in S. Bagdad at the "tip of the triange of death". The US base is in a mixed Sunni and Shite area. Minister of Interior issued statement...don't know what the cause was. They are not saying. What they have said is that this will not degarde the operational activity of the multinational forces.

Munitions base had extensive procedures used to protect such things. They said that it was EXCEPTIONAL that they got the people out with no casualties (reported as yet) fire fighting forces did excellent job, and there was limited damage (?). What caused this is still hard to say. This is what General Grant stated.
