    Interesting,

We have heard it all, from .03 to .90 with first peg, but we won't see $3.40 for years, and only if everything goes well in Iraq and they produce the oil they could if they ramped up for full capacity, so that depends on sabotage of pipelines and refining, so much of the future is in the hands of Iraq and security. We have seen more unity and I think they finally see the reality of issue, either get along, or go back to even worse killing in Saddam era which was indeed sectarian.

    Good luck to all, Mike

what are the chances of this being a transitional currency? Besides the fact that so much went into it's creation.

    Interesting,

Transitional to what? This is the new currency, which was transitional from Saddam era to democracy, so what would the need be to have another currency, unless you mean if Saddam comes back, then maybe, or if US declares it a state. (g)

    Good luck to all, Mike

No dates ass of yet, although June keeps cropping up. I still reckon by end of July we should have our prize!

Sen. McCain Optimistic About Iraq's Future

    BAGHDAD, Iraq -
Sen. John McCain emerged from a meeting with Iraq's president Saturday, saying all Americans wanted the democratic experiment in Iraq to succeed and hoped politicians here would quickly form a new government.

McCain, an Arizona Republican who backed the U.S.-invasion, headed a delegation that included Sen. Russell Feingold, a Wisconsin Democrat who opposed the war in Iraq. Feingold did not speak, but nodded in agreement as McCain spoke about the future of Iraq.

"The American people, no matter what party they are associated with, want the experiment of democracy to succeed," said McCain.
The McCain delegation was in the country just four days after another powerful group of American politicians visited to press for the quick formation of a new government.

President Jalal Talabani, a Kurd, has formed a coalition of with Sunni and secular politicians a second term for Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, a move that deepened the stalemate more than three months after the Dec. 15 parliamentary elections.

The McCain delegation was to meet al-Jaafari later Saturday.
On Tuesday, Sen. John Warner ( news, bio, voting record), a Virginia Republican who is chairman of the Armed Services Committee, Michigan Sen. Carl Levin ( news, bio, voting record), the ranking Democrat on the panel, delivered a tough message to Talabani and al-Jaafari.
They warned that Americans were running out of patience with delays in forming Iraq's government and could force U.S. leaders to decrease troop strength.

Kurdish, Sunni and some secular leaders argue al-Jaafari is too divisive a figure and accuse him of doing too little to contain a wave of reprisal violence triggered by the Feb. 22 bombing of a revered Shiite shrine in Samarra. The Shiite United Iraqi Alliance is itself divided over al-Jaafari, nominating him by just one vote last month.

At a community sports center Saturday, U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad told Iraqi athletes the country was at a crossroads. The main challenge was "to overcome the strife that threatens to rip apart Iraq," he said.
"As I speak Iraqi leaders are struggling to form a government of national unity. This is a critical step for the future of Iraq, it's a defining moment," Khalilzad said. Violence continued throughout the country Saturday.
Some 40 people were killed or wounded in a big gunbattle near the town of Mahmoudiya, about 20 miles south of the capital. Police said gunmen of the Shiite Mahdi Army militia were fighting insurgent forces, which are primarily Sunni Muslim.

Perhaps anticipating the meeting with the American delegation, Talabani on Friday issued a highly optimistic report on progress toward hammering a new unity government.

He said the government could be in place for parliamentary approval by the end of the month, though he acknowledged, "I am usually a very optimistic person." He spoke to reporters after a fifth round of talks among the country's polarized political factions.

Khalilzad brokered the sessions, with the Bush administration applying extreme pressure on Iraqi politicians to form a government. Washington hopes to begin withdrawing troops this summer, banking on a decrease in violence once a national unity government is in place.

A less optimistic al-Jaafari has said a Cabinet list could be ready by the end of April, a full month after Talabani's estimate.
Some politicians suggested Shiite bloc might seek a way out of the impasse over al-Jaafari by naming three other candidates for prime minister, according to politicians and officials close to the talks. They spoke Thursday on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive juncture in the negotiations.

Among those suggested for the post is former National Security Adviser Qassim Dawoud, some said.
Dawoud told The Associated Press, however, that he had not heard such a suggestion.
"No one has told me about that. I have no comment," he said.
Kurdish politician Mahmoud Othman said the high-level talks Friday took up a 28-point political statement that would outline the program of any new government. Another negotiating session was set for Saturday, he said.
Talabani said politicians agreed Friday to a method for choosing the government.
"All the political blocs agreed upon the mechanism of forming the government, and in the near future there will be a government of national unity," he said. He provided no other details.
Despite opposition to his possible second term, al-Jaafari suggested Friday he had no plans to step aside. 'There is no one in the world who wins unanimously except as used to happen during Saddam's era," he said.

McCain Pressures Iraqi Leaders on Gov't
By VANESSA ARRINGTON, Associated Press Writer Mar 25, 2006

BAGHDAD, Iraq - "The American people, no matter what party they are associated with, want the experiment of democracy to succeed," McCain said.

The delegation arrived in Iraq as the Bush administration has been applying extreme pressure on Iraqi politicians to form a government. Washington hopes to begin withdrawing troops this summer, banking on a decrease in violence once a national unity government is in place.

"As I speak Iraqi leaders are struggling to form a government of national unity. This is a critical step for the future of Iraq, it's a defining moment," Khalilzad said.

(Talibani) said the government could be in place for parliamentary approval by the end of the month, though he acknowledged "I am usually a very optimistic person." He spoke to reporters after a fifth round of multiparty talks among the country's polarized political factions. Khalilzad brokered the sessions.

A less optimistic al-Jaafari has said a Cabinet list could be ready by the end of April, a full month beyond the Talabani estimate.

Despite opposition to his possible second term, Al-Jaafari suggested Friday he had no plans to step aside.

'There is no one in the world who wins unanimously except as used to happen during Saddam's era," he said.

On Feb. 12, Shiite lawmakers chose al-Jaafari to head the new government, selecting the incumbent by a one-vote margin over Vice President Adil Abdul-Mahdi of Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim's Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq.

Zubaidi:Monetary value of the Iraqi dinar must revert to the previous level, or at least to acceptable levels as it is in the Iraqi neighboring states.

Shabibi:The bank wants as a means to affect the economic and monetary policy by making the dinar a valuable and powerful.
