Lifted this from LadyD at IIF
We spoke with our guy Today, He said, that the reason the site was down was they were changing it to Iraqgov.org or something like that, like ours is USgov.org. He did not say that he had quit selling he has said he will continue to sell until the day of the reval.
He also said there was an auction today and that the going rate was 1470 and $72 mil were sold :-( I was feeling optimsitec that some thing good was about to happen.
Now this doesn't mean that we won't see some action next week before the 10,000 dinars are handed out. I am hopeful that they will do something by then.
If they don't I feel that we have a long wait to come because the people will riot if the reval after they spend their 10,000 dinars.

A friend of mine at work has a brother in Iraqi. He e-mailed him today to see if he had heard anything. My friend said he should hear back from him tomorrow afternoon.

i think the optimum word here is 'why' of course we understand very little of this being westerners and the like. they have rules and proceedures and butts to kiss and backs to pat along the way. politics, it seems, is universally lethargic.
what my thoughts were concerning the bank and the handouts is that they already posted they would be closed for the end of ramadan and that the final date for closure would be the 19th right? and the eid is on the 24th. so the banks wont be open to cash checks, make deposits, get eid gifts, nothin. logically (pushin it i know) that would leave ONE DAY to get the checks cashed and that would be TODAY in iraq, oct. 19, '06 currently 4am baghdad time.JULY STILL AINT NO LIE!!!
franny, were almost there!!
