I must have missed the post about the credit cards (easy to do when you get behind on these posts).

As far as the part I highlighted, I was under the impression that they would hand out the ration cards, which the Iraqi's would present to the bank in order to get the $10k?

Can anyone confirm this?

The demand for dollar purchase decreased last Monday during the second cession of the Iraqi Central Bank auction within this week, recording a demand amounted to 43 million 800 thousand dollars, down from yesterday which was 46 million dollars.

Purchase orders were divided between 18 million and 690 thousand dollars in cash and 25 million and 110 thousand dollars in the form of remittances to abroad, which the bank fully covered by a fixed rate of exchange for the third consecutive cession, at 1470 dinars to the dollar.
However, not any of the ten banks participating in the auction, offered to sell the dollar to the bank.

The CBI is moving it site. It will be down for a few days. cbiiraq.gov should be the new site. Auction today32 million dinars sold at 1470.... everything is good!

Well, still no proof of auctions since all articles with "last monday" and in my opinion when you setup a new site or wants to move it then you register the domainname first.

As far as I good see the name is still available and you don't pull out the plug when moving a website.

Must be something else in my opinion!

It is about the handout of the ration cards which no one has received yet I believe???

I thought the other read was about Warka that released a credit card.

So no reval... . Oh well, at least we know now instead of tearing our hair out waiting for the next week....... .

It doesn't make sense for a bank to close for ten days. Or for all banks to close. Does anyone of the older members remember if they closed during this period a year ago?

In regards to the debit card issue, I found this post on another site and thought it was pretty interesting:


This is how I read this:
The 10k was for the end of ramadan, given as a debit card. In spite of the fact that there aren't any ATM's or card readers in the stores, this therey holds water for one very valuable reason.

This is a cash based economy. Less than 10 or 15% of their population uses a bank account. By issuing the cards, the government can force change from cash to credit.

That discussion went south on this forum in a hurry, but this would brig them into the 21st century. It may take them several months to find a way to cash in on the card, and it could create a whole new market of "cash your card" companys like we have here.

But the biggy is this:
By getting thier economy into an electrionic era, they can track were the money is and who is spending it on what. Say for IED's or support of a millitia etc.

Lots of great ways for big brother to keep things in check.
