Considering the reference the beginning of Ramadan and reference happy Eid, I would tend to think it pertains to the "money gift".

But, then again, they reference "increased purchasing power" as in the power of the dinar.

Iraqi premier to visit Saudi as reconciliation conference convenes in kingdom
Informed Iraqi sources have said that Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki received an official invitation to visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The sources said that Al-Maliki would meet Saudi King Abdallah Bin-Abd-al-Aziz and Crown Prince Sultan Bin-Abd-al-Aziz. The visit coincides with the convening of the Mecca conference for Iraqi religious leaders to launch a mutual pact to stop Iraqi bloodletting. A number of Iraqi religious figures will sign a document in Mecca on Friday [20 October]. The document bans internecine fighting and calls for stopping the violence in Iraq. Religious figures are scheduled to arrive at Jeddah Airport aboard a private Saudi plane coming from Amman to take part in the signing of the Mecca document. The plane has been provided by Saudi King Abdallah Bin-Abd-al-Aziz.

It has been reported in Riyadh that the meeting of the Iraqi religious figures will be confined to one session, which will be held after Al-Tarawih prayer [in the late evening] on Friday at Al-Safa Palace under the sponsorship of the secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Conference [OIC] and the Islamic Fiqh Academy. The session will be attended by a number of Saudi and Iraqi officials, in addition to a number of Islamic figures who were invited to the meeting.

Press sources said that the OIC secretary-general and the heads of the [Iraqi] Sunni Waqf, Ahmad Abd-al-Ghafur al-Samarra'i, and the Shi'i Waqf, Salih al-Haydari, will hold a news conference on the Mecca document. The Mecca meeting seeks to stem sedition between the Iraqis in their various religious schools of thought, stop violence in Iraq in all its forms and prohibit internecine fighting. It also calls for stressing the inviolability of the blood, honour and property of Muslims; adhering to national unity; releasing innocent abductees and cooperating for the sake of the independence of Iraq and its territorial integrity.

I wonder if the ones that wrote this article....

The objective of our visit to this market......etc

are the same people that were interviewing people in the market that was on TV with the people holding the "blue credit card sized" card that was mentioned in earlier posts? Was it ever figured out what that was? I believe I read something about warka? Could that have anything to do with this?

    Cheers!

Ok I have started a thread on the main dinar index called Looking for volunteers. I am looking for volunteers to help me copy and move news article from this thread to a thread that will be news only. This way we can have the best of both worlds, we all can continue posting in here like we have been and the folks that need just a pure news thread will have that available to them also.

I plan on copying the posters info also so that they retain credit for their finds.

So anyway if you are interested in helping just click on the following link and sign in.

    Thanks

    Mike

Personally I wouldn't call them if I personally spoke Arabic, I believe that kind of stuff will upset them to know end. I let some people talk me into telling them who one of my sources was and the next thing I know my source was getting phone calls from every body and their brother, they didn't know what questions to ask and all it accomplished was to get him upset with me. Thats why most people don't share who their sources are and I won't either any more. The CBI is more tight lipped than any one else is, and rightly so. jmo

If this has been resolved already, sorry - I'm still many pages behind but I just wanted to say we could easily isolate the news posts for winner simply by using the title, or just a header line in our posts: NEWS

    Default Check this out...interesting.

JEDDAH, 21 October 2006 — Eid Al-Fitr, the celebration marking the end of fasting in Ramadan, will be Monday, according to Khaled ibn Saleh Al-Zaaq, member of Arab Space Science Federation and supervisor of Buraidah Astronomical Observatory. In a statement carried by Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper, Al-Zaaq said it would be impossible to sight the Shawwal crescent today (Saturday) as it will disappear one hour before the sunset.
“We can only see the new moon on Monday evening with difficulty as it will be visible for only 36 minutes with a glow of 1.90 percent,” said Al-Zaaq, who is also a member of the Islamic Project to Observe the Crescent. He urged the public not to be confused by seeing celestial bodies on Saturday evening.
Ali Manikfan, an Indian expert on moon sighting, also confirmed that Monday would be the first day of Eid. “I have observed the waning phases of the moon in the last days of Ramadan. Yesterday morning I could see the crescent at about 8 a.m. It was about 25 degrees away from the sun. The crescent will be visible today (Saturday) before sunrise. This will be the last visible phase of the moon for Ramadan,” Manikfan said in a statement.
“Sunday morning the crescent will not be seen even though it will rise before the sun. This is the day on which the moon phase is not visible to the earth. Somewhere in the world both the sun and the moon will rise together on Sunday,” said Manikfan, who is a staunch advocate of a unified Islamic calendar.
called upon Muslims all over the world to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr on the same day. He urged the Organization of the Islamic Conference to unify the Islamic calendar.
“Eid Al-Fitr should be celebrated on the first day of the lunar month of Shawwal. Muslims around the world are now celebrating it on three different days due to the lack of a unified calendar,” he told Arab News.
Manikfan urged Muslims to adopt modern technological methods to sight crescent.
“Islam is the most advanced and scientific religion. It’s impossible to believe that the Prophet (pbuh) would instruct his followers in this age of science and technology to search for the new moon with their naked eyes when lunar and solar dates can be determined in advance on the basis of scientific calculations,” he said. He hoped that Saudi Arabia would take the lead and prepare a unified Islamic calendar for distribution in all Muslim countries.

Default Listening to FOX, Bush is going to change some policies!

President Bush is going to change some of our policies (tactics!) in Iraq; a change of plans or something to that effect! Maybe the "Baker" report got to him along with the new violence and "meanness"!

Rumsfeld: Iraq must take over security - Yahoo! News

Rumsfeld: Iraq must take over security (Can they really do it?>)
WASHINGTON - The Iraqi government is going to have to take over its country's security "sooner rather than later," Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said Friday, as the violence there continued to escalate.

Rumsfeld said U.S. officials, including Gen. George Casey, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, are working with the Iraqi government to develop projections as to when they think they can pass off various pieces of responsibility. He provided no detail.

"The biggest mistake would be to not pass things over to the Iraqis, create a dependency on their part, instead of developing strength and capacity and competence," said Rumsfeld. "It's their country, they're going to have to govern it, they're going to have to provide security for it, and they're going to have to do it sooner rather than later. And that means they've got to take pieces of it as we go along."

Rumsfeld has made similar comments before about gradually turning control of the country from American forces to Iraqi authorities.

But Friday's remarks came less than three weeks before elections in which Democrats are threatening to recapture control of Congress. A leading issue in the campaign is the war, which is widely unpopular with voters. U.S. deaths have surpassed 2,780, and President Bush is under growing pressure from lawmakers of both parties to alter his policies.
