we are discussing your article in our group, it appears as if iraq had this gold in the bank in switzerland during saddams reign which would mean that the value he had it set at was in all actuality REAL and not made up as so many have proposed.

the theft is ambiguous a bit in here and we are trying to decipher if it was two thefts or if it indeed was a theft or what. i mean thats an awful lot of gold to be lifted in a theft. that would have caused the devaluation of the currency.

The Minister of Municipalities and Public Works, Riyadh Ghareeb, announced the distribution of approximately 500 thousand land plots to citizens in all provinces.

This came in a press conference held yesterday at the Ministry's headquarters where a number of media were present. He added that land plots would be granted to the families of: martyrs, the missing, political prisoners and displaced persons in addition to officials and military personnel who did not receive land in the previous phase. He pointed out that the ministry had been talking to all provinces through an extensive meeting with vice-governors to find the reasons and justifications that delayed some of them to distribute the land plots, explaining that Najaf had already started land distribution to beneficiaries according to the instructions issued in this regard.

Ghareeb added that land distribution committee of provinces comprising representatives of the Department of State Properties, the Land Registration, membership of municipal councils, directors of inspection in the provinces and municipal managers which lie within the limits of the Service responsible for the distribution of land as well as vice-governors.

He confirmed that there is a study being discussed by the Economic Committee in the Cabinet on the possibility of granting loans to the beneficiaries of those land plots, as well as supplying them with construction materials subsidized by the State.

The Ministry of Housing and Construction expressed its readiness to prepare studies and designs for water and sewage networks. On his part, deputy governor of Karbala, Jawad Hasnawi, told (Al-Mada) that nearly ten thousand pieces of residential land will be distributed shortly.

I know this was taken off of an Iraqi news site. But at the bottom of the site it stated that they were a joint site with the Palestinians. When I read it on the site itself, it indicated to me that the govt they were referancing was the Palestines not the Iraqis. The tip off was when they stated they haven't been paid for 8 months. 8 months ago the Palestines' had an election and Haamas became the ruling govt. Since that occurred the US and EU stopped given them aid and now the people are starving.
