Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government says it has prepared its own oil policy and a draft partnership agreement with oil firms, the Kuwait News Agency reported. The proposals will go before the government's national assembly for approval, which would then allow foreign firms to invest in the sector. The KRG has already signed four oil exploration accords with Norwegian, Canadian and Turkish firms.

Default Brown rules out plan to split up Iraq

    Friday, October 27, 2006

The partition of Iraq is not on the agenda, Britain's finance minister and prime ministerial hopeful Gordon Brown said Thursday amid scrutiny of the US-led coalition's strategy there.
"I don't think that's the plan or the possibility at the moment," Chancellor of the Exchequer Brown - who is widely tipped to take over from Prime Minister Tony Blair by next September - told BBC radio.

"What really people are talking about is how we can bring security to the whole country, strengthening the forces of democracy.

"Nobody in our government or, I believe, anywhere else is talking about the partition of this country."

This situation also prompted a large number of the self-employed to change the pattern of their professional lives, and the exercise, either within their home or in safe places. For example, Manal «» Halaq Salonh forced to leave home in the New Baghdad «», south of Baghdad, to live at the home located in his neighborhood and opens hairdressing clients receive it. The idea evolved when some sellers to the extent of their commodity marketing at wholesale prices and the suspension notice confirming that their prices are below the prices of the big markets of Baghdad, while the win some customers by delivering the goods directly to them and in the alley and the neighborhood, As the delivery of goods to the home shopper himself. The new phenomenon has surfaced is allocated some alleys occupations, The other started promoting services and certain trades, concerns owners to continue their work in the markets of Baghdad, which had been forced to leave because of the potential for death resulting from booby cars and acts of violence. Even restaurants and food shops began to operate between the alleys and streets subsidiary, after that was organized entrances and exits to provide security for its guests. And if left their marks on the bad security of large markets and the old notes that the level of performance. by becoming free of its guests only in a few hours of the day. How will the future of these markets in the light of the continued violence? Will the owners will professions and crafts vendors on their shops and incur losses without any glimmer of hope for a change of heart in the foreseeable future? Associated most markets across Baghdad memory Albaghdadien ties old long history. The markets constitute the old part of a particular heritage destination on each occasion for shopping, shopping. The market Alcheorgh historical, known from the widely acknowledged, no longer secure and has seen its share of violence and terrorism. And he left traders to other areas. As a result of this exodus from the markets Alcheorgh and beautiful and Karbala and Baghdad, the new, clearly notes that the volume of commodity exchange and economic activity which has retreated to the catastrophically. The question is : Can alleys and neighborhoods need to fill the citizen-Baghdadi of goods and services, How will address the consequences of this phenomenon, as the relationship between the lessee and lessor, and pay bills (some of the State). Finally, but not least, What will happen to the historic attractions of Baghdad, including the old markets, that served citizens over the past decades?
since when do you raise your prices when you get less customers??

Money paid out by UN Compensation Commission for Kuwait invasion tops $21 billion
26 October 2006 – The amount of money paid out by the United Nations Compensation Commission (UNCC) settling damage awards stemming from Iraq’s 1990 invasion and occupation of Kuwait topped $21 billion today with the allocation of more than $417 million to 46 claimants in seven countries.

Money for the awards comes from the UN Compensation Fund, which received up to 30 per cent of the revenue generated by Iraqi oil exports under the now defunct UN Oil-for-Food programme, which allowed the sanctions-bound regime of Saddam Hussein to sell oil for humanitarian supplies.

Today’s payment of $417,819,931 brings the overall amount of compensation made available to date by the UNCC to $21,417,164,895.48.

UN management chief Burnham resigns to return to private sector

    USG Christopher Burnham
26 October 2006 – United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Management Christopher Burnham, who played a key role in reforms, including a strengthened whistleblower protection policy, has resigned to return to the private sector, Secretary-General Kofi Annan announced today.

“His strong leadership will be missed at the United Nations,” Mr. Annan said in a statement issued by his spokesman, stressing that he had accepted his resignation “with great regret.”

Mr. Burnham, appointed 18 months ago, was “a driving force” in management reforms, Mr. Annan added, citing his role in the creation of the first-ever UN Ethics Office, rewriting the whistleblower protection policy and devising stronger financial disclosure requirements.

He also was deeply involved in creating the first UN Consolidated Report, the adoption of new international accounting standards, and the reform and modernization of the procurement service, where irregularities were uncovered by both the UN’s own oversight office and the independent panel investigating the Iraq Oil-for-Food programme.

Mr. Burnham, whose resignation becomes effective on 15 November, previously served as Acting Under-Secretary for Management of the United States Department of State and Assistant Secretary for Resource Management and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the State Department.

Before that, he worked in the private sector as Chief Executive Officer of PIMCO’s Columbus Circle Investors, Vice Chairman of PIMCO’s mutual fund group, and an investment banker with Crédit Suisse First Boston and Advest Corporate Finance.

Zubaidi:Monetary value of the Iraqi dinar must revert to the previous level, or at least to acceptable levels as it is in the Iraqi neighboring states.

Shabibi:The bank wants as a means to affect the economic and monetary policy by making the dinar a valuable and powerful.
