Forgive me if I appear to be out of the loop, but I've been in the wilds of Alaska for the past six weeks, and am a bit behind on current events.

When I check into the ROLCLUB, and in particular into the latest on the Iraqi dinar, I find the thread filled with comments by people who are frothing at the mouth over the expectation of the soon to be reevaluated and tradeable Iraqi dinar. The expectation seems to be rather high.

I've held the "new" Iraqi dinar for over two years now. During that time I've watched the political/economic/religious/insurgency situation for a clue as to how long I might have to hold my dinars. Honestly when I first purchased my dinars, I figured I might need to hold them for as much as ten years in the post-Saddam Iraq of economic rebuilding, recapitlization and partneship in the world's market for them to appreciate in investment value. I've always known, and have used as a prime source of my strategy, that the real ace in the hole behind the Iraqi economic recovery plan is the 110 billion barrels of oil that still lays beneath the sands of Iraq. Based on that, I've always believed that someday my dinars would have real international value. The question has always been when.

From what I gather from reading several pages on the "Iraqi dinar update" thread (forgive me for not reading the entire 97 pages) that there is a real expectation that a 1:1 reevaluation (1 US $ per 1 IQD) is scheduled to begin sometime between May 28 and June 1. Is this right? If so, and please forgive for asking, what is the source of this information? I would love it if my investment hold time were reduced by eight years. And I would especially love it if this were to pay off in a huge way. But before I start seeing sugar plum fairies dancing in my head, I would like to see information about reevaluation and trade dates from a verifiable source.

So, if anyone can help a dreamer to really dream, please inform someone whose been wondering in the wilds, or at least point me in the right direction. I've been let down a few too many times in the past 18 mouths to believe hype about inpending returns on investment. Time and experience has hardened me, and when dealing with money what I need are facts not fiction, and reality not perception. Can anyone advises?

    Wishing us all success,

    harrisomi

Interesting move by Iraq's neighbour, to say the least:

    Dinar's revaluation impacts expatriates

Last week, Kuwait revaluated its currency for the first time since January 2005. This move has sparked market speculation that other GCC countries will follow the lead and revalue their currencies. :0))))))

Speak soon guys, offski on hols. ;0)
Zubaidi:Monetary value of the Iraqi dinar must revert to the previous level, or at least to acceptable levels as it is in the Iraqi neighboring states.

Shabibi:The bank wants as a means to affect the economic and monetary policy by making the dinar a valuable and powerful.

Good timing for sure, it has to put more pressure on Iraqi peg to keep in line with regional currencies, so I think it is good news overall.

    Good luck to all, Mike

    Question ???

O.K. I have a question. If Kuwait's currency is valued at $.29 or $.28 ...why would the Iraqi Dinar be revaled so much higher at 1:1? Am I reading it wrong or not understanding?

    Good Article!

    Hi Tiff,

I think you are reading the Kuwait value backwards. It is 0.28 dinar = $1.00 US, making one dinar worth $3.57 US.

On vacation because I could not face work this week. Hoping I don't have to go back.

Thanks Clueless! I was HOPING that was the case!

So then if the Iraqi Dinar pegs at 1:1 it's actually MUCH lower...and will begin to creep back up toward that $3 mark! Makes me VERRRRRYYY happy!

I know, I got quite the laugh when you posted about taking extra days off with the weekend because you couldn't trust yourself not to quit! Too Funny!

Anyone else so 'worked-up' about this that they are having trouble sleeping and eating besides me?!?!?! I swear this is me 24/7!

I COMPLETELY understand how you feel AZMIA!!! This is my own little secret...I let my hubby in on it, "sort-of"...I HAD to tell SOMEONE! lol! But he only knows about like 1/5 of how much I have...Can't wait to take care of my parents...I'm the only child and they took care of me...now it's MY turn!! My dad just had surgery on both knees and can't go back to work...he's a Brick Mason and has been doing that kind of work for 35 years! He is worried..my mom is stressed...I can't say anything about the dinars to them JUST yet...must make sure it's completely concrete before I spring this on them! Heck, they have enough with keeping up with ME from day to day with my antics, much less my saying "oh by the way, you don't have to worry about your bills or working or health insurance EVER AGAIN!" My mom's response..."TIFFANY! WHAT did you DO!?!?"

Can't wait...That will be another priceless moment in this little endeavor!

    Smiles all'round!
    Tiffany

P.S. I wish I could work some OTHER muscles in my body besides my face by smiling!!!!!

    Funny,

Yes, just a little off, no problem, it gets confusing converting all these currencies, but the simple way is to take the $1.00 and divide the dinar into dollar for current value. 3.5714285 sounds good to me as I still have a few thousand sitting around in Kuwaiti dinar. (g)

    Good luck to all, Mike
