A policy committee hammering out a draft new oil law for Iraq now has only one issue left to resolve and the legislation should be enacted by the end of the year, Deputy Prime Minister Barham Salih said.

He also saidprojections of a doubling by 2010 of Iraqi oil exports, now at 1.6 million barrels per day, and of output to 6 million bpd from 2.3 million bpd were 'conservative figures' in his view.

Salih said the committee, which he expected to meet in a couple of weeks, still had to agree on provisions governing whether development contracts with oil companies could be signed at regional or national level.

'I am hopeful we will be able to bring the group together on this matter,' Salih said.

Here in San Antonio Chase is still selling. I bought a few hundred thousand more today. Only thing different is the exchange rate. I've ordered alot of dinar through out october at chase and the exchange rate from Oct 6th to the 30th was .00076760. Today its .00075920. Probably not important, but I thought i would share that bit anyways

Sader of in Najaf province has provided security agencies with names of members of Mahdi army who committed deeds against al-Sader orders, to bring them in front of law.

A senior figure in Sader office said that after forming a committee to investigate on cases of harmful members, number of those harmful members has been punished and security forced have been informed to arrest them.On the other hand, one of leaders of Mahdi army said that 45 members have been dismissed of the army in Dewania city after being found guilty of committing deeds against al-Sader orders

Eight States agreed to open Iraqi Embassies in their capitals

Ministry of Foreign Affaires announced that eight states agreed to open offices of Iraqi Embassies in their capitals, said a statement of the Ministry Alsabah received a copy of it.

The Ministry added that it received official replies from South Korea, Ukraine, Sri Lanka, Denmark, Slovakia, Serbia, Philippines and Nigeria to open new Iraqi Embassies.
Opening of Iraqi Embassies in these states comes include in larger effort to open all Iraqi Embassies in Arabic and world capitals which closed after fall of former regime.

Well you asked so I'll tell. Remember I did suggest you call yourself and ask the questions.

I called IMF awhile back seeking information on Article VIII and what Iraq would need to do to be in compliance. What I was told is that Iraq is in a transitional phase from war and cannot at present accept the obligations of A. VIII I then went further and asked if this was due to a secondary currency, meaning is it because the US dollar and the dinar were both in use as this is a restriction IMF imposes. Again the transitional phase came about only this time it was stated that the present dinar is a transitional instrument for inflationary purposes.

Someone also brought up that the R card distribution could be to initiate a currency swap. I don't buy it though because not everyone gets the card as I'm sure many Iraqis are well off with dinar.
I never posted this because I didn't want to be the bearer of horrible news or IMF scare tactics.


Anyway, I still think we're a go within the next 2 weeks.

Inscrutable, I appreciate your taking the time to call IMF.
We all have to keep in mind that with a call like this one we aren't sure who is on the other end of the phone and we shouldn't take their info too seriously.
A receptionist wouldn't know much but might make an attempt to answer your question, whereas a person with the answers wouldn't be telling.
And technically the current dinar is a transitional currency because they fully intended to reprint it again in 2010, if I'm not mistaken.
