This is my opinion - i trade forex but have no experience in how a new currency is introduced.

The market opens for business in Monday morning in AUS (Sunday night USA) and trades 24 hours a day until the US exchanges close on Friday. It would make sense that they introduce a new currency into the mix before things start up for the week. However, local exchanges do close everyday it is possible that the Dinar is brought into the market when, for example, the London exchange opens in the morning.

I guess we'll see sooner or later!

Photocopying each of your dinar not only proves they are yours but makes a notation of every serial number. That way no one can switch your's for counterfeit ones, etc. It's just a safety precaution but worth the time to do it.

I scanned all of mine into my pc just in case.... you never know when scans of your notes might come in handy.

Good idea Vipor and for the time it took to do that you have peace of mind for later.
Personally I'd rather take too many precautions prior to exchanging my dinar, then regret not doing enough after.

Not saying i know all but there are World Trade buildings in most major commercial cities around the World. NY may be "the capital" of financing but FOREX (if i understand your reply correctly) is a worldwide exchange and, unlike the NYSE, FTSE, TSE, etc., one center has no control.

5 Evidently the curfew is also for tomorrow??????????? I believe so. So when the banks open back up on tuesday, I think that the !0,000.00 Dinar will be passed out then with a R/V.

I think it was all set up to go down today (Sunday) and because of the Iraq government throwing a monkey wrench into the mix it got put off for two days. We know that things do get screwed up over there for reasons that sometimes don't make sense to us but make a world of sense to them.

the only corrections to your information is the fact that they are having the people come to the banks to pick up the cheques. they decided against using representatives of the ration card distribution to hand out the money due to safety. so yes, they cant get their cheques until the banks are again open.

Photocopies of dinar will do you no good at all. Just because you photocopy what you have, does not mean that is what you gave the bank. They could easily say " They were fake and we destoryed them", even though you gave them legit bills and have photocopies. It will be a he said she said battle. I am not letting mine out of my site, even if I have to drive to New York. jmo

With the comment of having your dinars off to authenticate.....I will drive or fly to NY with my dinar before i hand my dinar to the bank for them to send them off Im not taking any chances. I want it done right in front of me...Im not taking that chance. Dose anyone know of any banks that has the proper machine to authenticate dinar right then and there??? I remember a while back that there is a special machine from the De la Rue ..but it could have been a rumor....when i read it it was a while back at the IIF

forex information sites indicate that nyc is the 'official' opening for the forex.

To each their own....you do realize you have the bank teller sign for receipt of the notes, w/serials numbers, denominations and amounts?
I don't recommend letting anyone else have control of them either if it can be avoided but documenting serial numbers is a wise move and CYA.
If the notes have to be sent away to be authenticated and can't be avoided there are ways to protect yourself legally and documenting the notes and serial numbers is the best way to begin the process.
