I get confused on this auction thing also but I believe they are buying back dinar. This should be a good thing the less money in circulation the higher demand for the dinar. This should relate to a better money rate. I may have this backwards but I believe this is correct.

If they were to RV the NID then I would have though that it would be to their benefit to have as much of their own currency in-country.

Only just a thought.

An official in the Basra governorate media today, Tuesday, that the preservation allocated (10) million Iraqi dinars for the purchase of refrigeration equipment for the rehabilitation unit at the heart of Basra General Hospital.
Nazim Al-Gabri said in a telephone conversation with the News Agency (Voices of Iraq) Independent today, "devoted the Basra governorate (10) million dinars for the purchase of refrigeration unit to revive the heart of Basra General Hospital in the city center."
Al-Gabri and added that "the procurement process had been conducted by the province."
The Basra General Hospital is one of the oldest hospitals in Iraq where established in 1916 by the British occupation forces, The hospital called (Maud) to the Commander of the British General in Iraq at the time.

That was my first thought. Todays auction saw them buying a 109 million (US value) of Dinar but selling only a few million. Hmmmm indeed.

Or maybe they just have lives like the rest of us! I for one enjoy taking a day or two off from here... gets my blood pressure back down and we all need to spend more time with our families anyways!

I have been tracking the CBI for 2 years now and it is has happend before. agrred its not an every day thing or even every week. but it has happened over the years and untill it happens alot i would not put much stock into it.

I think it's a very good thing. One, it means less Dinar on the open market. Two, is should be a policy method to curb inflation because less currency is available to purchase goods and services. However, the CBI needs to do more than just buy back Dinar to reduce the kind of inflation Iraq is experiencing.

Yes, I agree - I have seen them selling a time or two myself. As you said, I wouldn't read anything into that piece of information.

Does anyone know if the banks opened in Iraq today and what happened with the idea that they were being guarded by army rangers? There were 2 rumors about that last week but nothing since.
