I always find it interesting to listen to what the rest of the world is saying about us...this from The Standard--China's Business paper
US studies option to quit Iraq
Timothy Phelps
Saturday, November 11, 2006
A top US intelligence official has been secretly meeting with Middle East counterparts to discuss proposals anticipated from a commission studying options on Iraq - including an approach to Iran and Syria.
Commission discussions are said to be focused on an option presented by a panel of experts that the United States concede that the situation in Iraq cannot be stabilized and make plans for a phased withdrawal of its troops.
An alternative proposal - that the United States commit money and troops toward stabilizing Iraq before a withdrawal - appears less likely to be adopted, according to sources.
In any case, nothing the commission proposes is likely to solve the problem in Iraq because the country is already out of control, according to experts. "There just aren't any options," said one adviser to the Baker commission.
Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte is already working with ex-secretary of state James Baker on recommendations of his Iraq Study Group, co-chaired with former Democratic congressman Lee Hamilton.
Negroponte has apparently come to agree with what is expected to be the most controversial of recommendations from the Baker group: that Washington approach Iran, and - with Israel - approach Syria for help with Iraq.
The losses by the Republicans in this week's elections add impetus for a change of course and make Baker's group more influential, analysts say.
Iran is the power behind all the major Shiite militias in Iraq and is well connected to most Shiite politicians, who form the majority block in the government. But Iran is also in conflict with the US over its alleged program to build a nuclear bomb.
While the Bush administration is not expected to drop its opposition to a nuclear Iran or the threat of military action to prevent it, the US could offer limited guarantees it will not attack Iran from Iraq and will prevent an anti-Iranian militia in Iraq from causing trouble.
Whether that would be enough to persuade Iran to be more helpful in Iraq is not clear. Iranians are said to be extremely worried about a US pullout from Iraq, and resulting chaos, in the wake of Tuesday's elections.
An approach to Syria might include the carrot of Israel reopening talks on the Golan Heights or some other concession from Israel. Israel in turn would want Syria to rein in Hezbollah, the Lebanese militia with which Israel conducted a month-long war last summer.
Any dialogue with Iran or Syria would be an about-face for the Bush administration, particularly for the neo- conservative hard-liners who have long lumped Syria and Iran in with Iraq's Saddam Hussein as enemies.
But the hard-liners lost one of their chief backers Wednesday when President George W Bush fired Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. And his replacement, former CIA director Robert Gates, has openly advocated talks with Iran. To complete the circle, Gates is a member of Baker's Iraq Study Group.
The Bush administration reportedly initially resisted congressional proposals to create the Iraq Study Group. But the president is now repeatedly pointing to the group's report, due by January at the latest, as an opportunity for a correction of his Iraq policy.

I don't see the Dems pulling out--like others here, I agree that a message has been sent to both Washington and Baghdad, that the time has come for as Elvis would say A little less conversation, a little more action please!

I thought Saudi debt relief was done!!!!
Hi Everyone,
I just had the chance to read through the posts. Seems like a lot of positive news. I thought I had read that the Saudi debt relief was complete. Bummer if it is not. I am a little miffed why they would be sending Bank staff away for training when they will be handing out those 10,000 gifts. They are an interesting bunch.
I am excited to see what Sunday or Monday brings. they can't keep this up for much longer an RV is inevitable so sooner rather that later is better for everyone.
Dinar-ExcitedKeep a positive mind.
I have my MOJO back!!!!!!

Just saw Sgt Alvin York on the "old-flick" channel!
Just saw Sgt Alvin C, York on the "old-flick" channel! The story about a WWI hero and about his life before he went to serve his country and he was drafted according to the story. The best part was he was listed as a conscientious objector, as he stated he did not want to kill anybody! In the heat of battle and after watching his friends die; he took a different stand. He had reportedly killing over twenty enemy soldiers, he was asked why he did what he done; he commented that he did it so the other killings would stop! Most profound, to kill so others might live!

News Thread
[QUOTE=Texas_Tea;133996]I agree. I do not see why some people are concerned that money will be taken away from the troops while they are there. They shouldn't be. Democrats are trying to get the Iraq Government to get on with things so they can become self reliant and we can start using the money on other things like healthcare, elderly, energy projects, etc. Once this has been done and the people are no longer living in poverty (for the most part) then I think this will lower the need for those with no choice but to join into terrorist activities to feed their families so I predict that the problem with security issues will reduce to the point where troops can start coming home. While the troops are in Iraq, I do not think any government funding to keep them there will be cut. The democrats are more concerned with cutting spending given to the Iraq Government. Even though I do not agree with the war, I am not stupid. If i see a good investment opportunity then i will take it like most of you out there would. I am not saying that they are pushing a reval or anything. The Democrats want them to do something and soon. The only thing i can think of is to reval IMO but who knows.
I thought this was a news thread, but once again you want to talk about the wonderful & beneficial days ahead of us because of the democrats wise and instructive ways to run the war in Iraq and of course solve all the problems in this country with more social programs. Thanks for your input.
