some already have been trained and considering this is BANKING SUPERVISION i would think they are preparing for supervisors for the smaller banks.

I wouldn't swear to it but I am 99% sure that this news is from 30 Oct. or 1st November. I will look for it. Here they are still talking about disbursing the grant through agents and that was decided against some time ago. Look at the other date, January 31st, that would be 3 months from end October. Just a thought.

That would make sense. As they are just about to be very very busy with the 10,000 gift and hopefully RV. Make sure those Iraqi bankers are ready for the gold rush.

Hundreds of companies take part in international fair in northern Iraq
The Associated PressPublished: November 11, 2006SULAIMANIYAH, Iraq: Hundreds of companies from around the world looking for opportunities in Iraq took part Saturday in an international fair in this city in the relatively peaceful Kurdish north.

The fair, organized by the Iraqi American chamber of commerce, was inaugurated by Nechirvan Barzani, the prime minister of Kurdistan's regional government.

Some 370 companies from around the world including 50 from Germany and 24 from Italy, were taking part in the four-day conference.

Most of the companies specialize in infrastructure and construction, badly need projects that have been held up by unsafe conditions in Iraq and the U.N. sanctions regime before that.

To restore foreign aid, Hamas leader says he would resignUnlike the rest of Iraq, the three Kurdish provinces in the north are safe and tightly controlled by tens of thousands of local peshmerga militiamen.

The region became essentially autonomous and not under the control of Saddam Hussein after the 1991 Gulf War, when the U.S. imposed a no-fly zone over the region and kept Iraqi forces out. After the fall of his regime in April 2003 the militias secured the area despite some bloody attacks that left hundreds of people killed.

"I am very happy that that this international fair is being held on the land of Kurdistan," Barzani told The Associated Press after officially opening the fair.

"Whoever wants to invest in this region is welcome," Barzani said.

The executive director of the Iraqi American chamber of commerce, Raad Ammar, said the fair was being held for the second consecutive year in Sulaimaniyah.

"This fair shows that reconstruction conference can be held on our land and not abroad so that all Iraqis come and take part," said Ammar, who is an Arab.

Before 1991 the Baghdad fair that had been held annually starting in 1964 and drew exhibitors from an average of some 50 countries. It was one of the major trade shows in the Arab world.

Since then participation dropped as Iraq suffered under the 13-year crippling economic sanctions imposed in 1990 to punish Saddam for his invasion of Kuwait.

The last major fair to be held in Baghdad took place in 2002 with the participation of large number of foreign companies, including some western firms that came privately rather than under government sponsorship.

After the fall of Saddam Baghdad became too dangerous for foreigners to come and take part in fairs.

I am a little miffed why they would be sending Bank staff away for training when they will be handing out those 10,000 gifts. They are an interesting bunch.

I am excited to see what Sunday or Monday brings. they can't keep this up for much longer an RV is inevitable so sooner rather that later is better for everyone.

wasnt that just cbi staff training? theyve already trained some of those guys once this year already. al rasheed and al rafidian are the banks to hand out the monies so training of cbi personnel wouldnt be pertinent to the handing out of the dough by those two banks.

Hey SGS,

I think they have been training them since 2004 but it is interesting that the World Bank and IMF will be participating I am not sure if they were directly involved before. If they were not that would mean they are getting really serious with the banking. I was reading that the banking is there number 1 thing right now. I think we knew this but it is always nice to read.

Is it possible that he DID find the e-mail but it had CONFIDENTIAL written across it in big red letters. That would surely cause him to tell you that he couldn't find it!
