No you don't karin! you want facts, leading to a peg! rumours don't come true most of the time.

Have a read of this, very exciting. I did read an article mentioning 28 June for laws to be passed allowing foreign investment but this is as good. :0)

Ok, if you want a rumour, the latest one knocking about is June 28th. ;0) I wouldn't mortgage my house on it though, lol.

    Iraq seeks more foreign capital
    5/24/2006 Reuters
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's new oil minister said on Monday he would seek clear laws designed to attract billions of dollars in foreign investment and vowed to promote a culture of transparency in the country's shattered oil industry.

Hussain Al Shahristani said oil deals with foreign firms struck by regional authorities, such as one reached in the Kurdish north last week, should require backing from the central government.

"The first thing we are going to work on is an investment law to reassure the big oil companies so that they work in Iraq."

Shahristani, a nuclear scientist who lacks oil industry experience, said he was prepared to make tough decisions to tackle a host of problems, including rebel attacks on pipelines and corruption that has robbed Iraqis of billions of dollars of oil revenues.

    Specific laws soon

"We should have specific laws which put the oil ministry in Baghdad in charge of all operations starting from exploration, fields development, production, exports and signing contracts," he said two days after the announcement of Iraq's first full-term government since the fall of Saddam Hussain in 2003.

Oil multinationals eyeing Iraq's giant largely undeveloped oilfields, are waiting until a new investment code with a legal and regulatory framework is in place, before they venture in.

Shahristani said the oil ministry would be technically ready to present the law to parliament in three months but political backing was needed. The law must be ratified by a parliamentary committee.

"Iraq has the potential to be the second biggest producer in the next few years. This requires marketing ties with all the importing countries," he said.

Shahristani predicted Iraq, which sits on the world's third largest proven reserves, would re-establish its weight at Opec's bargaining tables.

Adding to this, there will be no peg till the 2 minister posts are filled. There is a parliament meeting scheduled for tomorrow, so say some prayers tonight folks.

Hmmmm....In order to become the second biggest oil producing country, one would think that the currency of that country would need to be 'tradeable', wouldn't it?

Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow (later tonight for me, EST!) I look forward to the news/update....

Here's to hoping everything goes as planned in the meeting!

Now I'm off for my MRI...arrgh.

Checking back in a bit to see if anything is 'happening'.

Adam, did you read in that 'other forum' the post (don't remember from whom) that said that "in their opinion' the peg will happen overnight (didn't say WHICH night). No warnings just BAM! (Emeril moment...sorry!) What do you think of that? Any substance?

    Later Alligators!

Tiff, if you hear anything while some of us are in the land of nod, please post it!!! www.investorsiraq.com will cover it, sure of that, or someone will post it.

Coming round more and more to thinking this will happen when we least expect it. Am as desperate as everyone else, hate the day job hugely and if SI pays me off next month I'm outta the shirt and tie office job!

As you said above, the country with the second biggest reserves, and remember a huge amount is undiscovered and some experts would tell you with that they hold the biggest reserves in the world that they have to reval and succeed. The world will need oil for a few more years yet!

    We will get there.

And you really think it's liberal press that's spinning this thing? Might have a peek at the current gestapo regime that wants our eye on the bloodshed while they calmly destroy the middle class of this country. Sorry, I realize politics (aside from Iraqi politics) are an incendiary subject, so I'll quit if you will.

AMEN to that Ourhouse! I have worked in the American court system for many years and seen FIRST hand how everyday people get screwed out of everything they have worked for, and for no JUST cause. Takes a bad encounter w/ the FEDS of the US to know what evil they can perpetrate upon hard working Americans!!! TO TRUTH (It ain't only Bryan and Pips getting the 3rd degree unfairly) IMHO, and I do know what I am talking about.
