Iraqi Investments Club
Exactly,
This has always been my take on issues as well. After all, when you look at all of Iraq, Kurdistan has had the most economic growth and prosperity, even when under the rule of Saddam, they still managed to protect themselves as well as prosper, and I find that simply amazing.
Having delt with the Kurd's on a few projects has given me a little insight in how they operate, and not being familiar with Baghdad for obvious reasons when Saddam was in power, I can now see just how ass backwords Baghdad is in relation to Kurdistan.
When you know it was the Kurd's who hammered out FIL and most other major economic bills, you start to see who should really be in control of gov. in Iraq. I personally feel it is time to seperate regions now that the fair distribution of oil wealth issues are complete for some things you just cannot change, and sectarian violence is one of them.
With all the killing these past few months, it is now painfully obvious Iraq cannot function as one nation as the hatred created by Saddam's regime runs too deep to ever correct or change. Killing exists for no other reason than greed, always has, always will. Under Saddam, the minority were the wealthy, under new gov., ironically, the Suni fear being the poor, how ironic is this? With a fair distribution of wealth, all these issues will desolve and then back to normal greed, not sectarian greed, and although killing will still go on, it will not be for greed or money, it will be for sectarian reasons, which is back to basics as this is common in middle east region.
The sooner the economics is squared away, the better off everyone will be, including all of us. You cannot win this war on terrorism when the ones blowing themselves up are the sub poor and illiterate. Why do you think the insurgents are attacking the educators? They know that if you keep illiterate majority, which ultimately were the most poor, then they had a pool of suiciders to draw from. This is so simple to figure out, yet the U.S. and Iraqi gov. seem to be missing the point, you cannot stop sectarian violence until you end poverty.
Speaking of poverty, the word from my Kurds is still no word on 10K handout. This may have more to do with revalue potential than I first thought, so time will tell why they have delayed it longer than anyone thought, but here is hoping it is for a good reason. Given the equal distribution in Kuwait, the 10K would make more sense if revalue was at dollar rate, and this could be just the first distribution, of which three more would be ideal on a quaterly basis as I would like to see.
On a sidenote, imagine if they held this 10K over the heads of all Iraqi's as a tool to stop sectarian violence. In short, if one is caught in any sectarian violence, they and their families are cut out of the distribution system. In addition, anyone caught looking the other way on violence would also loose their distributions. And to take it a step further, any illegal activity, such as black marketing, price gouging etc. would also end distributions. As I have always said, the majority of violence could have ended ages ago if they would have put all the money wasted on security directly into the hands of the poor, the suicide killings will end.
Good luck to all, Mike

Actually, banks in other countries, such as Switzerland, do have foreign currency accounts. My bank here in Canada has just started offering this service (other than US accounts which have always been available here). I haven't asked what currencies they will handle. I know that particular bank was not selling dinars.Jean
