Kurdistan PM Nechirvan: Baghdad will not control the oil, of all things, again
    [16:14 , 18 Nov 2006]
Kurdistan (up stream online) PNA-The prime minister of semi-autonomous Kurdistan region of Iraq said on Wednesday he would travel to Baghdad soon to press home his demands for control of oil resources in his Kurdistan region northern territories and a significant share of oil revenues. Nechirvan Barzani has been highly critical of Iraqi Oil Minister Hussain Shahristani, who has insisted on central control of oil and says he wants to review deals the Kurds have signed with foreign oil companies, including Norway's DNO. Senior government officials in Baghdad say they hope for agreement by the end of the year on an oil investment law that will resolve disagreements among the major sectarian and ethnic factions and open the way for much needed foreign investment, Reuters reported. One point at issue is how far the new constitution gives regional governments control over existing oil fields and new discoveries. Local powers over the latter appear stronger. Barzani said the constitution gave the regions a right to be partners in all fields and also said he wanted more transparency in how national oil revenues were distributed to the provinces. He would not leave Baghdad until he was satisfied, he added. "Baghdad will not control the oil, of all things, again," he told reporters. "The powers we are demanding on this are inalienable and we consider them a red line. "The Kurds have suffered greatly in the past in this matter. Today our devastated districts need reconstruction projects ... We want special funding. The constitution gives us this." DNO said this week it had found more oil in its Tawke field than it expected and confirmed it would go into production in Iraqi Kurdistan next year. Kurdish leaders have complained that comments by Shahristani about reviewing contracts risk hurting investment in the region.

    Iraq seeks Turkish links
    Iraq: Saturday, November 18 - 2006 at 09:17
Iraq's Oil Minister Hussain Al Shahristani has revealed that the country is only able to utilise about 8% of its oil reserves, reported Reuters. The minister said Iraq sought oil exploration tie-ups with Turkey and was doing its best to limit sabotage attacks to its pipelines. Meanwhile, Turkish officials expect Iraq to resume operating a second line of the Kirkuk-Yumurtalik pipeline system which was damaged during the war.

Hello everyone. Well we continue to see a trend of the CBI removing dinar form the economy. Todays auction results have fewer banks and the total amount is not that large. At some point there will be a "drying up" of available cash that can be removed. As the rate increases, fewer prople will let go of their cash at these levels. With all of the articles that have been posted (thanks SGS and others) it is safe to assume that Iraq is experiencing an expanding economy. Estimates have been posted of an increase in GNP of over 14 percent. When you have an expanding economy, you have an increase in the DEMAND for money, when you have a central bank decreasing the base money supply you have a reduction in SUPPLY of that commodity. Expanding economy and reduction of the money supply. A formula that predicts a rise in the price levels of that commodity, in this case the Iraqi currency. The very BEST position we could be in. We WANT as much of that currency removed prior to an RV as possible. We WANT continued expansion of that economy. So, this is all very good fundamental economic news for all of us. Thank you for your many comments and PMs.
