Dick Cheney holds Mideast talks in Saudi Arabia
Dick Cheney holds Mideast talks in Saudi Arabia by Suleiman Nimr
32 minutes ago
US Vice President Dick Cheney held talks with King Abdullah during a brief visit to Saudi Arabia in a new diplomatic thrust by Washington that will also see President George W. Bush meet Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.
The Saudi official SPA news agency said the discussions covered "the whole range of events and developments on the regional and international scenes."
The talks focused chiefly on "the Palestinian issue and the situation in Iraq," in addition to ways of boosting cooperation between the United States and the oil-rich Gulf kingdom, it said.
The meeting was attended by Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz and other top Saudi leaders, but no further details of the talks were immediately available. SPA said Cheney later left Saudi Arabia.
A Saudi official earlier said that Cheney's talks would focus on the situation in the Middle East, particularly violence-wracked Iraq.
US sources said Cheney was expected to ask Abdullah to use his influence to help foster reconciliation in Iraq, which is reeling from an explosion of tit-for-tat sectarian violence between the ruling majority Shiites and the Sunni Arab former elite.
The Riyadh talks were also expected to cover the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the situation in Lebanon, a diplomatic source in the Saudi capital said.
Cheney's visit to US ally Saudi Arabia came ahead of a November 29-30 meeting in Jordan between Bush and Maliki on Iraq.
More than 250 people were killed on Thursday in a series of car bombings in Baghdad's Shiite stronghold of Sadr City in the bloodiest single attack since the US-led invasion of 2003.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is also due in the Middle East soon.
Cheney was expected to ask Abdullah to use his influence to help bridge the divides between Iraq's warring Sunni and Shiite factions, and also press for Riyadh to come through with its promised reconstruction aid.
Iraq's sectarian conflict, a surge in US casualties and the victory of opposition Democrats in Congressional elections on November 7 have piled pressure on Bush to change US policy, if not to begin withdrawing troops -- something he refuses to commit to.
On Monday Saudi Arabia warned against upsetting the "social balance" in Iraq and urged US-led forces to stop outside influences, in an apparent reference to the growing influence of Shiite Iran.
In a statement after its weekly meeting, the Saudi cabinet stressed the need to restore security in Iraq.
The Sunni-dominated kingdom also said that permanent members of the UN Security Council and Iraq's neighbors should "shoulder their responsibilities in backing Iraq's independence and territorial integrity."
Cheney, one of the architects of the invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein, is a vigorous defender of US policies in Iraq. He also served the current president's father George Bush as defense secretary in the 1991 Gulf War that ousted Iraq from Kuwait.
The current surge in violence in Iraq has added urgency to the trips by Cheney and Bush.
But on Friday the political group of Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, whose base is in Sadr City, threatened to quit the national unity government if Maliki meets Bush.
Washington said the meeting will go ahead as planned.
An Iraqi diplomat in Riyadh meanwhile told AFP that Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari has put off a visit to Saudi Arabia slated for Sunday "due to developments of the situation in Iraq."
The diplomat, who requested anonymity, did not give a new date for the visit.

I feel like I am watching the Seven Dwarfs in the Desert. I think Bush needs to break out the hooka and have a smoke out with all the leadership, bring a couple girls, some cheese whiz, and Jenga . . and get this done already

thats 20,000 according to the roster. they havent put anything on hold. what has happened is we had rumor posters who made up what they thought the information was saying to them and made some lousy guesses. what you are seeing now is the 'talk' they have been making finally put into action.
just because we were all ready for it, the iraqi people were suffering, everything indicates its past time to do it, they are still on their own timeschedule. they have certain things they want to accomplish before they revalue the dinar and they have been working on these things.
everyones patience has been ruined by the rumors and weve got to erase those out of our heads and MOVE ON. we have never been this close and we all should be celebrating instead of questioning. GO IRAQ!!!!JULY STILL AINT NO LIE!!!
franny, were almost there!!

i think its a standard chart they look at which gives them rates for each day. you gotta remember that is the rate they sell it at which gives them some profit. it is called the 'spread'.

Office of the Iraq Programme

25 November 2006
UN Office of the Iraq Program - Oil for Food: About the Program
Weekly Oil Exports
The following reports track oil sales through 20 March 2003. Oil exports under the Programme were suspended with the onset of war on that date. Security Council resolution 1483 (22 May 2003) lifted civilian sanctions on Iraq and called for the termination of the Oil-for-Food Programme within six months (21 November 2003). The resolution also provides that all proceeds from exports after 22 May be deposited in the Development Fund for Iraq, under the administration of the Coalition Provisional Authority "until such time as an internationally recognized, representative government of Iraq is properly constituted:"
CHECK THIS OUT....COINCIDENCE, I THINK NOT. LOOK AT THE DATE AT THE TOP, THEN LOOK AT THE REFERENCES BELOW.
Phase XIII 30 November - 6 December 2002 (See also two rows below)
Average rate of oil lifted (millions of barrels per day) 1.47
5 - 6 December 2002 (under phase XIII) 1.00
Does this mean anything????
