Sadrist bloc threaten to suspend membership in parliament, government
    By Santa Michael
    Baghdad, Nov 27,

(VOI) – The Sadrists’ bloc threatened on Monday to suspend its membership in parliament and government if Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki met as scheduled with U.S. President George W. Bush in Amman.
"If security conditions did not improve and if al-Maliki did not go back on his plans to meet Bush in Amman, we would suspend our membership in both parliament and government," Mr. Nassar al-Rubai'e, head of the Sadrist parliamentary bloc, said in a news conference in Baghdad.
He said everyone is aware of the fact that "we have the enough force to reply but Iraq's unity and the interest of the Iraqi people keep us at the beck and call of our leaders."
On recent statements by Mish’an al-Juburi, head of the Sunni Liberation and Reconciliation Front, to the Doha-based Aljazeera TV about plans by a number of lawyers to sue Muqtada al-Sadr in Brussels on charges of human rights violations, al-Rubai'e said "each development will have its talk."
Al-Rubai'e wondered about the prime minister's insistence on meeting the American president in Amman on Thursday.
"Is it an order that must be carried out? In other countries they might cancel visits for much less reasons than we have," he said.

Sort of a courtesy "kickback"? Or is there some very complex banking law that prohibits this sort of thing? If this "agreement" exists would it be time sensitive ("ok, you US banks got til noon on Friday to wring as much outta Dodge as you can...then we RV and everybody makes money!") After all, those "bank fees" add up - consider the $2-3 fee you pay to use another bank's ATM! Just a thought!
I have never been a conspiracy type person. JP Morgan chase has been involved in the trade bank of iraq since the beginning. They (JP Morgan) has always been involved in international banking arrangements. (They financed the Panama Canal) So even if there is not a "kickback" arrangement, the fact that Chase is dealing in dinar has been one of the most positive signs I have seen over the last few weeks. In Vegas we say "bet with the house". Since Chase is involved, we are betting with the house, and Chase is not known for making mistakes. From there point of view: They make money on the sell/buy, they make money on the spread, they make money on their holdings when there is an RV, and maybe most important, they have their name up front and many of us will open accounts and do investment business with them They also offer OffShore investments in several offshore locations. And I know this issue is of interest to many. (I will have more to say on the issue of appropriate offshore investment later). So staying on the side of someone like Chase is a good thing, and one of best pieces of news we have heard. As I have stated in the past, when Chase began this, we went from having pretty paper in a safety deposit box to a real asset.

Jordan's King says situation in Iraq needs quick and dramatic change

    Posted: 26-11-2006 , 14:42 GMT

Jordan's King Abdullah stated Sunday the problems in the Middle East go beyond the war in Iraq. "We could possibly imagine going into 2007 and having three civil wars on our hands," he said, citing conflicts in Iraq, Lebanon and the the Palestinian - Israeli conflict. "Therefore, it is time that we really take a strong step forward as part of the international community and make sure we avert the Middle East from a tremendous crisis that I fear, and I see could possibly happen in 2007," he said. Speaking on ABC's "This Week," the monarch said he remained hopeful a summit he will host this week in Amman with US President Bush and the Iraqi prime minister, Nouri al-Maliki, will somehow reduce the sectarian violence in Iraq. "We hope there will be something dramatic. The challenges, obviously, in front of both of them are immense," the king said. "We have to make sure that all parties in Iraq understand the dangers of the ongoing escalation. I hope Prime Minister Maliki will have some ideas ... on how he can be inclusive in bringing all the different sects inside of Iraq together. They need to do it now," he said, "because, obviously, as we're seeing, things are beginning to spiral out of control."

The king spoke of the urgent need for a change in course in Iraq. "There needs to be some very strong action taken on the ground there today," he said. "I don't think we're in a position where we can come back and revisit the problem in early 2007. There needs to be a strategy.

There needs to be a plan that brings all the parties together, and bring them today and not tomorrow."

Iran invites China to sign $100bn oil deal

    Bloomberg

TEHRAN — Iran and China moved a step closer to signing an energy deal worth as much as $100bn, with the Islamic republic saying it had invited China Petrochemical’s MD to Tehran to sign an accord.

The contract, drawn up in 2004, for Sinopec Group, as China Petrochemical is known, to develop Iran’s Yadavaran oilfield and secure oil and gas supplies over 25 years, was ready to be signed, said the Iranian oil ministry agency Petroenergy Information Network.

Iran, under US economic sanctions and at odds with the US and the European Union over its nuclear activities, seeks friendlier markets. China and Russia said on October 26 they would oppose a draft resolution imposing United Nations sanctions on Iran for its nuclear programme. No resolution has been passed since.

“All elements of the contract have been finalised and it is in the final process for signing by Sinopec,” said National Iranian Oil president Gholamhossein Nozari on Friday.

Under the initial deal signed by Sinopec, China would pay Iran as much as $100bn over 25 years for the oil and gas purchases and for a 51% stake in the Yadavaran oil field, in Khuzestan province near the border with Iraq.

The deal would allow China to buy 150000 barrels of Iranian crude a day at market rates for 25 years, as well as 250-million tons of liquefied natural gas.

Royal Dutch/Shell, which has worked as a technical consultant for Sinopec on the Yadavaran oil field, will participate in the field’s development, said Iran’s oil ministry in September. Shell officials have said the company is seeking a 20% stake in the field.

Iran’s constitution forbids foreigners from holding rights to natural resources.

Instead, foreign firms may have “buyback agreements” to finance the development of reserves, hand them over to Iranian control and then recover their investment at an agreed rate of return from subsequent production.

Sinopec, China’s second-biggest oil company, on July 31 signed a contract worth $2,84bn with Iran to expand the capacity of the nation’s refinery in Arak.

Iran is negotiating with several other Chinese companies to develop its energy sector and is holding talks with Cnooc, China’s biggest offshore oil producer, about developing the North Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf, Iran’s oil ministry said last month. In exchange for developing the field, Cnooc may be able to sell liquefied natural gas from two of the field’s four phases over 25 years.

State-owned China Power Investment, one of the country’s top five electricity groups, was close to signing a $1,8bn deal to build gas-fired power plants in Iran, company officials said.

Yadavaran, with reserves of 3-billion barrels, would produce 300000 barrels a day — about the same volume China imports from Iran, said Petroenergy.
