The King of Jordan is a pretty sensable guy from what I have seen and read. I was stationed in Jordan during 2003 when we LIBERATED IRAQ. He was taking a lot of shiite from his people for us being there but to give him credit he supported us. Watching him yesterday he seems pretty intelligent as well. I hope between GW and himself they can get this train up to full speed soon.

His mother is British and he was even cast as an extra in a Star Trek Voyager episode after making it known he was a huge fan. If only all of the leaders in the middle east were like him!!

Concerning Oil. Last summer there was a report that Iraq had reached 2.5 MBD in production. Recently there was another report that they had reached 2.8 MBD with the projection the they would reach 3MBD by end of '06. So if we use these figures, and use the figure of .5 MBD in consumption, then Iraq has available for export of around 2MBD. (Please correct my figures if you have conflicting information). If this is close to true, and oil is trading at around 60$ per barrel, then Iraq's income is over 43Billion a year. I beginning to think that oil is coming into play as a major factor in our discussion of iraq. If their budget is between 30 and 40 Billion a year, then they have a surplus that has to be brought into the discussion. On a individual basis, we would call this disposal income. Money for further oil development, money for infrastructure, and money to be used by the CBI to retire/ remove currency. They are already rich. And they need to increase the purchasing power of the currency for the iraqi people. The one single thing they could do at this time to stimulate the economy and increase the confidence in the GOI. News 2006 Iraq budget

Iraqi Finance Minister said that the Iraqi budget in 2006 will be ID 50. 9 trillion and it is expected that Iraq's income might reach ID 45.392 trillion in 2006, thus registering an increase of ID 17 trillion over the previous year. The Minister added that ID 9.272 trillion will be allocated for the investment projects, an increase of ID 2 trillion over 2005.

Actually, if my memory serves me, Queen Noor (his mom) is an American who went to Princeton and met king Hussein his dad (who swept her off her feet so to speak and they married) and who (Hussein) died of cancer a few years ago. And I just wonder if because of this he's a tad bit more open to the USA in this whole negotiation thingy going down this week?

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US forces can neither crush the insurgency in western Iraq nor counter the rising popularity of the Al-Qaeda terrorist network in the area, media reported, citing a secret Marine Corps intelligence report.

The five-page report, written in August, focuses on the largely Sunni Iraqi province of Al-Anbar, according to the Washington Post.

As of mid-November the problems remained the same, a senior US intelligence official told the Post. "The fundamental questions of lack of control, growth of the insurgency and criminality" remain the same, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

According to the report, "the social and political situation has deteriorated to a point" that US and Iraqi troops "are no longer capable of militarily defeating the insurgency in al-Anbar," the Post reported.

The secret report was written by Marine Colonel Peter Devlin, a senior military intelligence officer with the Marine Expeditionary Force in the region. According to the Post, it did not appear to have been shared with Iraq's military.

Iraq's Sunni population is "embroiled in a daily fight for survival," fears "pogroms" by the Shiite majority, and is increasingly dependent on Al-Qaeda in Iraq as its only hope against growing Iranian dominance in Baghdad, the report reads.

"From the Sunni perspective, their greatest fears have been realized: Iran controls Baghdad and Anbaris have been marginalized," says the report, according to the Post.

Barring an additional 15,000 to 20,000 US troops deployed to the region in addition to billions of dollars in aid, "there is nothing" US troops "can do to influence" the insurgency, the report reads.

The report describes Al-Qaeda in Iraq as the "dominate organization of influence" in the province, more important than local authorities, the Iraqi government and US troops "in its ability to control the day-to-day life of the average Sunni."

it states "projected" in the August 2006 document to the IMF - so it really not set in stone just a guide to were they really would like to be in all the documents to the IMF. Sorry I just go by what Iraq has in their documents to the IMF so I don't hold much water in the .04 thought either.

I hear ya on that MrsCK, it's just that the projection doesn't jive with the "rhetoric" so who knows? Appreciate all your great research BTW!
