Guessing...
Just guessing that the majority of us have never invested in much of anything in the past, so the excitement is just too palpable to contain...No harm done. We all know who is more "informed" through current and past experience and we don't take those sources for granted. But, in these last few hours/days/months before the initial RV, let those who have poured hours of research into this (long before I got here) and who have made lasting friendships far and wide - let them have their fun...I know! There's a thread for this...But sometimes there's a "lull" here and just to see a spark of cheer and faith is energizing - pushes us to research anew. Thanks for your input - but even Neno was cutting us some slack...right?

Iraq panel to call for US to trade troops for diplomacy
By Rupert Cornwell
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Washington, 01 December 2006 (Independent)
A high-level bipartisan panel will recommend a "gradual but meaningful" pull-back of US combat forces in Iraq, and call for a stepped-up diplomatic effort by Washington, including direct contacts with Iraq's neighbours Iran and Syria, to try and restore stability to the country.
The proposals will be unveiled on Wednesday by the Iraq Study Group (ISG), the 10-member group headed by the former Republican secretary of state James Baker. But its main conclusions have already started to leak out.
The timing and shape of the pull-back has been left deliberately vague, reflecting the panel's view that to set a firm timetable would play into the hands of insurgents fighting both for control of the country and to force out the US.
But implicit in the recommendations, according to sources quoted by The New York Times, is that the reconfiguration should start in 2007. The report is said not to specify whether US troops should return to their bases in Iraq, redeploy to other countries, or return home.
The thrust of the ISG's conclusions has been known for some time. But however imprecise, they could have great weight, as political pressure here intensifies for a phased withdrawal of US forces, and the Bush administration casts around with increasing desperation for an exit formula.
The relative speed and smoothness with which the five Democrats and five Republicans in the group have come up with an agreed strategy also makes it harder to ignore, or dismiss. It could thus give White House cover for a major change in policy, especially on the issue of direct engagement with Iran and Syria, hitherto resisted by President Bush.
In Amman yesterday, however, Mr Bush appeared to give not an inch, saying that he supported the view of Nouri al-Maliki, the Iraqi Prime Minister, that Iraq could handle its own affairs "and that they don't need foreign interference from neighbours that will be destabilising the country".Last edited by hightide3016; 01-12-2006 at 10:07 PM.

Thanks DayDream!
I thought so. But he, they can still do it any time they want, so in fact it doesn't matter where they publish it.
We know from Adster, that they updated the Gazette sometimes 2 days in a row and then one month later.
It can happen anytime now and we are all there!

Well I know that they DO NOT update on Fridays at all. We should see an update around 11:00 am as this is when they usually update on Saturdays. They ALWAYS update on a Saturday and have only missed doing so 7 times this year 3 of which (I believe?) were on their holidays. So keep ALL eyes peeled in the morning!!
Cheers!

Media-Parliament
Press freedom group urges parliament to let reporters in
Baghdad, Dec 1, (VOI) – A press freedom group on Friday urged the Iraqi parliament to rescind a decision to bar reporters from its present headquarters, calling it a violation of press rights and threatened legal action if its demands were not met.
"(We) did not expect the house of representatives to deprive journalists from one of their most important and safest sources of information in addition to accusing them publicly of being behind fomenting sectarian divisions in Iraq," the Journalistic Freedoms Observatory, a Baghdad-based independent group, said in a statement.
"This accusation could in itself be a reason to target journalists with physical liquidation," it added.
On Monday, Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani announced several recommendations which he had made to the political council for national security including one urging quick action to find a legal form to deal with the media.
"From now on, the media will be outside parliament... when there is an inflammation, the media could be one of its causes," he said.
The observatory warned that it would file a suit in the Supreme Court if its demands were not met.

Hakim-Tour
SCIRI's Hakim to tour U.S., Europe and Arab countries
By Adel Fakher
Baghdad, Dec 1, (VOI) – Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim, head of the Shiite umbrella Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), will visit the United States, several European and Arab countries as part of a tour which started in Jordan, a SCIRI source said on Friday.
Hakim will visit the United States on Saturday or Sunday at the invitation of the white house, legislator Hamid Ma'alla, who is also director of information at SCIRI, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
He will also visit France, the United Kingdom, and Arab countries including Gulf States.
"(The aim) is to brief Arab and European states on the political process in Iraq and the most important achievements," Ma'alla said.
The tour also seeks to boost ties with these countries, win support for Iraq, and relay the government's vision for the future of Iraq.
Hakim heads the Shiite umbrella Unified Iraqi Coalition (UIC), the biggest single bloc with 130 seats in the 275-seat parliament.
He held talks in Amman with King Abdullah on Wednesday.
