Japan to extend 3.3 billion in soft loans to Iraq
Japan will extend 3,348 million yen in soft loans to Iraq as part of an aid package pledged in 2003, the government said Monday.
The loans will be used for the construction of bridges in the southern Iraq city of Samawah, where Japanese troops are deployed for post-war reconstruction and humanitarian assistance.
In late March, Japan decided to provide 76.5 billion yen in soft loans to Iraq for the construction of port and other facilities.
These will be Japan's first soft loans to Iraq since 1985.
In 2003, Japan announced plans to provide grant aid worth 1.5 billion dollars and extend loans worth up to 3.5 billion dollars. (Jiji Press)

18,000 textbooks arrive in Iraq
We thought you would enjoy these pictures of a portion of the 18,000 textbooks donated in partnership with Adopt-A-Unit Tri Valley, the Dublin Rotary and SoA as they arrived finally at their destination in Iraq. It took an ocean container, many months and the cooperation of SoA personnel in Iraq and the generosity of the US Embassy in Basrah to see this project through. But the letter of thanks from the Iraqi Ministry of Education and the smiles of those who helped with the distribution make it all worth while.
School Paintings from Iraq
Iraqi Kurdistan School Painting
School children in Iraqi Kurdistan will have their paintings included in an international competition with schools from other parts of the world.
This accomplishment was made possible through the school partners program which you so generously supported with school supplies and funds. The children are excited over the prospect of participating in an international program, an event which would have been impossible before the liberation.
See some paintings:
