Masked gunmen assassinate Muslim cleric in Najaf

BAGHDAD, Dec 3 (KUNA) -- Sheikh Yassin Al-Harab, a Muslim cleric at Martyr Mohammad Sadiq Al-Sadr office, was assassinated Sunday by the hands of masked gunmen, said a security source.

The source told KUNA that the victim was shot dead infront of his house in Al-Askari neighborhood northern Najaf.

According to the source the murderers fled the scene and the investigations were still conducted to determine who was behind this crime.

Despite local, regional, and international calls to stop the Pandemonium here, Iraq still witnesses daily images of chaos. (end) mhg.rd.

Did anybody find out if this is true(confirmed) yet?????

Karbala tribal chiefs urge exclusive state possession of arms
    By Ali al-Nashi'
Karbala, Dec 3, (VOI) – Tribal chiefs in Karbala on Sunday called for removing all armed appearances in the city and acknowledging the state's right to have exclusive possession of all weapons in Karbala.
The chiefs demanded more efforts from the government to enhance the rule of law and rid the province of killings and assassinations.
"More than 250 tribal chiefs in Karbala have met to consider the tribes' position regarding developments on the Iraqi arena," Hamid al-Sherifi, the deputy secretary general of the Islamic Congress for Iraq's Tribal Chiefs, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).
Sherifi said the leaders have recommended coordination among all blocs and parties in power to have a vision that is clear to all in a way to improve security conditions in the province.

"Karbala is witnessing numerous cases of murders and assassinations without any clear motives or reasons, which badly affect security in the province," Sherifi added.
He pointed out that tribal leaders demanded to have a role in this mission by sanctioning them to participate in security-maintaining operations.

YES! Get the tribal chiefs controling their people. Take the arms away and then you'll know who the insurgents are. If Al-sadar is planning a coup with allawi and the national salvation group the American's will crush that with Maliki and the rest of the Iraqi's and tribal chief's.

"We have not failed in Iraq," Stephen Hadley said as he made the talk show rounds. "We will fail in Iraq if we pull out our troops before we're in a position to help the Iraqis succeed."

The White House readied for an important week in the debate over Iraq: Bush planned a meeting Monday with Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim, the Shiite leader of the largest bloc in Iraq's parliament, and awaited the recommendations Wednesday from the bipartisan commission.

Once the president is comfortable on how to proceed, he will spell out his plan publicly in the coming weeks, Hadley said.

Don't telegraph your plans to the enemy! We will have our R/V by that time and more support for change in the country

Bush repeatedly has rejected a wholesale pullout or what he calls artificial deadlines, saying Thursday, "This business about a graceful exit just simply has no realism to it at all."

Hadley said Bush was trying to address those who contend the commission "was just going to be cover for an American withdrawal, almost regardless of what was happening on the ground. And the president needed, and felt he needed to stop that right there. That isn't graceful withdrawal, that's cut and run. And, of course, as the president's said, cut and run is not his cup of tea."

Hadley said the goal remains to shift responsibility to Iraqi forces, an increasing point of emphasis as the unpopular war rolls on.

Bush, after a meeting last week in Jordan, expressed confidence that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and his government can lead the country toward peace with support from the United States.

Once there is money and the people are relieved of that pressure, then there is more hope for a better future. THEN maliki will have the support of the people behind him and won't need Al- sadar. Then we will see the change in violence start to get cleaned up! Maliki and America will kick butt...can't do much without money coming in and people starving.

They have a plan for the big picture for their country and we will all reap the benefits soon. They WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN

    03 December 2006 (Korea Times)

South Korea is considering lifting a ban on travel to Iraq to allow its companies to advance into the war-torn Middle Eastern nation, government sources said yesterday.

A study will be conducted in Iraq by a special inspection team, made up of officials from the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Construction and Transportation and other related government agencies, before a final decision is made, they said.

"We had an inter-ministerial meeting last month to discuss the issue,’’ an official said on condition of anonymity. "We can lift the ban in some areas first and later expand in stages the regions that the companies are allowed to visit.’’

Seoul has kept its citizens from visiting Iraq for security reasons since 2004, when a worker named Kim Sun-il was kidnapped and murdered by an insurgent group that demanded the withdrawal of South Korean troops.

The ban has been in place for more than two years, but business organizations have urged the government to ease the restriction, saying that South Korean companies might miss out on business opportunities.

Although many areas of the country are still dangerous, the government recently began to allow some companies to make week-long visits to the Kurdish-controlled town of Irbil in northern Iraq, where Korean troops are stationed.

Some officials maintain that security concerns should come before potential business deals, however, even if it means that South Korea, which sent the third-largest forces to Iraq after the United States and Britain, misses out on business opportunities there.

About 2,300 South Korean soldiers, mostly non-combatants, have been stationed in Irbil. South Korea plans to halve the number by mid-2007.

To the north, the 15-year-old autonomous Kurdish region has begun to show signs of independence. Authorities there enforce rigid security regulations for non-Kurdish Iraqi visitors that are more suited for foreigners than citizens of the same country.

These include a security interview on arrival and registering with police when taking up residence or finding employment. Visitors traveling by road are stopped at three checkpoints before entering Kurdistan.

Man, the Kurds really have their act together. I just wish the rest of the country would take the hint and follow suit
Way to go KURDS! No one is going to muck up their prosperity!
They are getting it right and they are not gonna let anyone, including Bagdad, rob them of their new found freedom and peace I think they have set the bar very high for Bagdad and will force them to get on board the same fast track to success
