adster--- what do you make of this?-- on saturday after reading your thread i ordered some iraqi dinar on the internet with my bank halifax. today i went in to pick it up but when i got to the counter the manager told me i was unable to purchase any dinar. she said that they get there foreign currency from travel-ex [i think?] and that they were unable to get hold of any and there is none left in the country ?? i then tried marks and spencers-- no good , and then i went to nat west. here they seemed to think there was not a problem, so i have got a purchase note for £500 worth of dinar. the girl at the counter was only young ,so probably does not know the score . i can pick them up in acouple of days but i have i feeling i may get the same response as i had in halifax when i return. anyone else had this problem ?? cheers

Ok. I just called the Halifax Holiday Money service number: 0845 246 0006 and the man I spoke to confirmed that they don't have any currency at the moment. He said to keep trying daily, as there is a possiblity that they will get more.

Also phoned the RBS number from the link below:

They, like the Halifax, get their dinars from Travelex and informed me that they haven't had any for a couple of days but now have some, only 25,000s though!

A friend of mine in Belfast tried to get them at the Halifax today but no go. He told me the girl looked at him like he was completely mad! She showed him the screen and he said the only currency on it was Jordanian dinars. He's going to try Barclays and HSBC tomorrow, I'll let you know how he gets on.

So, it looks like if you haven't got your quota yet, you'd better get your skates on! It's all getting very exciting! Trying my best to keep my feet on the ground but..............it's sooooooooooooo hard!

An Iraqi economic expert attributed the recent decline in the value of the dollar against the Iraqi dinar to the lowe interest rate. Dr. Taha Fakhri, member of the Iraqi Institute for developing the economy, said: "The decline in interest rates is the reason behind the slight decline in the dollar in governmental auctions and commercial transactions". He added: "This decline is also caused by the weak consumers demand on imported goods due to the deteriorating security situation, which compelled the State to finance some important deals".
He pointed out that: "The slight rise or decline of the dollar does not obstruct the growth or value of the dinar which is expected to become stronger than before with the introduction of the balance of 2007 and the strategic application of the new monetary policy announced by the government last year". What the fack does this mean??? We have seen this numerous times now!!!

He explained: "The decline will be reflected on the value of the precious metals whose prices will rise as a result of the fall in the dollar, which gives an opportunity for those who hold commercial transactions, such as automobiles and heavy equipment, to invest them". Fakhri said: in some cases the decline in the dollar rate is linked to America itself through the entry of imported goods and the exit of funds from it.

I'm just guessing here, but it could be a translation problem and possibly should read "in this last year" instead of "last year" meaning they are talking about the announcments of 2006
