Parliament-SessionIraqi parliament session postponed for lack of quorum; media ban still onBaghdad, Dec 7,

(VOI) – The Iraqi parliament on Thursday was unable to hold a formal session for the third day running for lack of quorum, while a ban on media was still on despite an official announcement it was lifted.

“There was lack of quorum, so today’s session was mainly consultative,” a source close to the House of Representatives told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI) over the phone.

Media people were barred from covering Thursday’s session even though Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani announced on Wednesday that a ban on journalists to cover parliamentary sessions has been lifted.

The media department in the house told journalists the ban was still on until measures and guidelines are put in this regard.Last week, Mashhadani decided to prevent journalists from entering the (Conference Palace) in Baghdad's green zone where the parliament convenes.

Journalists were not allowed to cover parliamentary sessions under the pretext that the Political Council for National Security has forwarded a recommendation in this respect with the aim of stopping "sectarian escalations."Mashhadani had accused Iraqi and foreign mass media of "trying to ignite sectarian sentiments and violence" in the country.

My friend lives quite a way from Barclays so hasn't contacted them yet. He phoned his local HSBC who said that they do sell them but, they didn't have any, so maybe he better try one of the bigger branches! DUH... some of these bank tellers haven't got a clue have they? He's trying the Halifax again tomorrow, failing that he will order them directly from Travelex.

Oh, how I wish I could buy 3 mill but, I ain't complaining. Should have enough to make a difference.

Looks like the banks think they are going to just slowly raise the dinar too. They are still trading in their dinars for dollars.

    Thought HSBC weren't doing them........
Zubaidi:Monetary value of the Iraqi dinar must revert to the previous level, or at least to acceptable levels as it is in the Iraqi neighboring states.

Shabibi:The bank wants as a means to affect the economic and monetary policy by making the dinar a valuable and powerful.
