I would love an overnight re-val and maybe once HCL is enacted it will be possible. But slow grow is better than no grow!!!!
I've been waiting since February '04, if it happened tomorrow it would be anything but overnight.

Looks like the reporter, or transcriber, or editor left off three zeros. 10 million IQD at todays .00066 rate = around $6,600. Mystery solved. Why would some Joe Palooka reporter have any more inside information than anyone else? First instinct was right, this was a misprint.
    Seriously???

That's one hell of a misprint! How a writer and/or editor could both make that mistake is unbelieveable to me.
A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood. Trying to make the matter clearer, she said, "Now, class, if I stood on my head, the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I would turn red in the face... then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position the blood doesn't run into my feet?"
A little fellow shouted, "Cause your feet ain't empty."

And she didn't even post it originally, but sent it to someone else in an apparent attempt to get under his skin. The article may say million instead of thousand but I will only believe it once we have a trustworthy translation.
I'm so sorry to confirm it. It says million, just had my guy read it.

As to the buried old Saddam notes, well, if they did so under the airstrip, this would have been a monumental engineering mistake. Being in the road remediation and construction industry, you neve want paper, an organic material under an air strip, or any road for it will deteriorate in time and compress causing major structural strengh issues. Landing stips, in particular are more critical given load extremes and the maintenance interuptions, so I would say this reported disposal method is a myth, or worse, a major mistake. (g)

It must be a major mistake because I've seen the pictures and believe me why would he lie about it he has nothing to gain or lose from it he also brought back lots of all the bills new and old and gave them to everyone, I no nothing about landing strips but thats what he told me "we buried all the old dinar and then built the runway," he told us (me) about all the stuff he did showed us the pictures and other little treasures that he had found. I know that they were buried because the in the picture it's all his friends stand near a large pit full of money. then when I asked him more detail he said everything was buried (everything), and his brother russell is over there now helping with the Banking(oh yeah I'm from Utah) he said he sent him an email to find out if they have any info on the lower bills I haven't heard back but like I said he was just back
I wasn't able to see him, and he wasn't much in the mood for chating about dinar.
So you can believe what you want and I'll believe what I've seen Deal!

    Welcome Stik!

I have tracked all auctions, oil sales, t bills sales from the Ministry of Finance, and other details of the CBI. I have graphed all these in several ways, continuous, seasonal, along with other variables to identify the correlation coefficient to each other. I have kept to myself since I do not have all the info needed to make a good stab at an guesstimated price, yet.

Perhaps I may email this excel spreadsheet so that you do not have to do the data gathering and instead manipulated and rearrange the data. In any case, welcome!

    Kind regards,

    Howard

100% Correct OSW This would be an engineers nightmare, especially with the weight of a plane.

I wonder if Hoffa is under that tarmat?

    Saddam dinar fades away

Iraq's old bank notes bearing Saddam Hussein's portrait became obsolete on Thursday at the end of a three-month period to exchange them for the new currency.

An Iraqi displays an old (right) and new 250-dinar bills

More than 10,000 tonnes of now worthless notes bearing the image of the ousted dictator are now being destroyed, according to a joint statement by the Central Bank of Iraq and the Coalition Provisional Authority.

"Rebuilding Iraq's ruined economy is a key priority for the coalition - a new currency to replace the discredited old one was a necessary early move," L Paul Bremer, the top US civilian official in Iraq, said in the statement.

The new notes, illustrating scenes depicting Iraq's important scientific contributions, history, landscape and economic life, have been printed in the denominations of 50, 250, 1000, 5000, 10,000 and 25,000 dinars.

One US dollar is now worth between 1200 and 1300 dinars, compared to about 2000 before the US invasion in March last year.

The new currency replaces both the old dinar and the "Swiss" dinar, used in the north of Iraq. One old dinar is exchanged for one new dinar, and one "Swiss" dinar is exchanged for 150 new dinar.

The statement said the dinar has appreciated by 25 % since 15 October when the new currency was started with a three-months period for exchanging the old dinar.

Central Bank of Iraq Deputy Governor Ahmad Salman Jaburi has said the new dinar is secure unlike the easy-to-counterfeit Saddam dinar.

"Its many visible and invisible security features make it very hard to fake," he said. "A secure currency will provide a firm foundation for Iraq's future economic growth."

Bremer said the new currency system was in place less than a year into reconstruction of Iraq, a task that he said took three years to begin in post-World War II Germany.

    Printed by UK firm

The first shipment of the new currency - printed by British company De La Rue - arrived in Baghdad on 17 September, 2003 in 28 jumbo jet loads of 90 tonnes each. Four smaller aircraft distributed the cash in bulk to regional centres.
Printing the new currency cost US$130 million.

It is expected that bank vaults around the country, many completely filled with sacks of old Saddam dinars, will be cleared by the end of January, the statement said.

To date about 4.5 trillion new Iraqi dinars ($3 billion) were estimated to be in circulation. The statement did not say how much of that has been exchanged.

Nearly one-third of the 10,000 tonnes of old currency in about 300,000 sacks gathered in the course of the exchange has already been verified and burned, it said.

    Into the fire.
