Iraq's Ambassador Participates in International Workshop on Marshlands
Dr Ganim A. Al-Jumaili, Iraq's Ambassador to Japan, too part in an international workshop on the revival of the marshland, southern Iraq, organized by the UN Program for Environment/Kyoto Office in Tokyo over the period 4-9 December 2006.
Ambassador Al-Jumaili gave some words, on the occasion, expressing gratitude to the donor countries, mainly Italy and Japan which hatched this initiative, hoping that these countries would continue supporting Iraq. He stressed the importance that should be attached to the environmental issues and indicated that administering water required regional and international cooperation. He concluded his words by wishing that this initiative would yield a new life to the marshlands.
The Environment Ministry Undersecretary represented Iraq in the workshop as well as some researchers and specialists in the water and environment field.

Foreign Undersecretary Meets Polish Charge d' Affaires
Dr. Mohammed Hajj Hmoud, the Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Legal Affairs and Multilateral Relations, met on 17 December with Mr. Stansilaw Smolen, the Charge d' Affaires ad interim of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Iraq, accompanied by an ambassador from the Polish Foreign Ministry and representative from the Polish Ministry of Defense.
The two sides discussed the planned visit of the Polish Prime Minister to Iraq and the upcoming meeting on the International Compact for Iraq Reconstruction. Mr. Smolen said he had conveyed to his government the Iraqi welcome of Poland's participation in this meeting and kindly asked for Iraq's support of Poland's nomination to the membership of the UN Security Council. The Polish Foreign Ministry's representative gave a briefing on the meetings held by the Joint Iraqi-Polish Committee in Warsaw, making clear that they were an excellent chance for experts from the two sides to meet each other to explore the prospects of broadening and strengthening bilateral relations in all respects.
Dr. Hmoud also touched on the conditions in Iraq and the prospects of the Conference of Political Forces for National Reconciliation recently held in Baghdad and its repercussions on the future of the Iraqi reconciliation as well as on Iraq's relations and present dialogues with its neighboring countries.
