Dec 30 starts Eid al-Adha this year, which is why the CBI probably will be closed during this festival. For the past 2 years, they have been closed for 4-6 days for this festival. The timing of this festival is different each year, as it is dependent upon the phases of the moon. They were open at the new year for the last 2 years because Eid al-Adha happened later in January. I look for them to be closed until the 9th. JMHO.

Interesting observation by Cressey30 over at that other place.

The FIL was passed & ratified some time ago. We were just waiting for enactment to be able to push things forward. If you look at the various details in the forum you will see that the FIL was, in fact, enacted yesterday (19th) which should mean that you can buy shares now in your name rather than using Warka as proxy, which has been necessary up until now. There is one point that you should notice, & that is the ISX closed down for business on Monday (18th) night & will not be open until 8th Jan.
If you read between the lines, you will notice that the FIL enactment came through the day after the ISX closed thus preventing any individual or large commercial entity from purchasing into Iraqi company shares until they reopen after, with luck, the HCL & ICI have also been enacted by the large meeting on the 7th Jan. When all this takes place there is nothing then stopping the GoI & CBI from issuing an RV of, again with luck, substance prior to the ISX reopening thus making the shares cost on par with other neighbouring countries. So by doing this, the worry that some people had of Iraq being sold off on the cheap to big foreign investors will be avoided & they shall have enough currency to cover the stipend to the Iraqi citizens created by the HCL, to cover the grant to families, to cover the 100000 small project loans for businesses, to cover other large projects & also to cover the day to day running of the country.
Also just one other very small point is that as a by product of this all coming together, we shall be able to look at our small amounts & go to exchange it for whatever currency we wish & at a very nice profit. So who was it that was after that Lambo & yacht--see you in the Caribbean. Me? Well I'm moving out of tax riddled UK to the sun & very low taxes within the year, & when I'm done then, if anyone is passing by all means pop in as the champers will be on ice.
Here's hoping for a big one.

Default Why the 9th?? (ooops 8th!!)

If the CBI is closed for 6 days, as they were 1feb-6feb, 2004, that would have them closed thru Jan 4th. with the 5th & 6th being Fri. and Sat., on which the are normally closed. They celebrate Waqf al-Arafa on Sunday the 7th this year, which is also a holiday. This means that the earliest they would open is the 8th. While typing this up, I see that I am correcting myself, as it looks like it would be the 8th.

Having been on this ride for two and a half years, I have heard many RV rumored dates and people with corresponding birthdays saying maybe it will hit on their birthday. Well, now it is my turn because January 8th is my b-day and would love to have a present like an RV!! Of course I would love for it to be sooner but January 8th is only 19 days away!
