Now, I read a statement by "future millionaire" on the other forum about this, which I think is noteworthy, because it's very simple but true.

"o.k. now that the iraqi gov,t. is telling businesses in banks to only except dinars as payment, & here is my reason for a high reval. say the average iraqi has a dollar in his pocket and we get a reval @ say .30. if he exchange his dollar for a dinar he is losing .70. so in order for this to work for the iraqi's a 1 to 1 reval or higher must happen. are the average iraqi will say screw it i'll continue to spend/buy with my USD's. this is where smarter people then me post to explain to us the whys & why not."

If they are stressing and urging to use the Dinar only then the Dinar has to be a reasonable value.

I think they also have to raise the dinar to a 1:1 level to de-dollarize or else no one will exchange dollars for dinars and will go on in paying with dollars!

I said the same basic thing about 1 million posts ago. I saw that article also and I am holding my breath. I can't hold it much longer than the first of Jan so I hope they hurry up!!! I am already as blue as the type above me.

This does sound like a good indicator. With Thursday being the last auction for the year, what kind of a leap will the CBI make...

From my understanding the 1260 rate is what Iraq said their 2007 budget is based on - which starts Jan. 2nd.

Iraqi gov't distributes 22 billion Iraqi dinars to victims of Saddam's

regime (with photos) BAGHDAD, Dec 27 (KUNA) -- The Iraqi government on Tuesday distributed 22 billion Iraqi dinars (approximately USD 16.6 million) in compensations to Iraqis who had their properties seized by Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's regime.

In a special ceremony held on this occasion, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki said that the dictatorship was gone and would never come back to Iraq, asserting that the government was planning to compensate all victims of Saddam's regime.

Iraqi government official Ahmad Al-Barrak said there are 33 resolutions to compensate citizens who lost their properties due to the practices of Saddam's regime, noting that those who received compensations attended a special ceremony held in Baghdad that was patronized by Al-Maliki and major government officials.

Al-Barrak added that citizens expect the government to be just and compensate victims of Saddam's regime, noting that the concerned government authorities are carefully looking into each complaint to verify all documents and give people back their rights.

He noted that the violations of Saddam's regime are major and complicated, and there are thousands of citizens who demand their rights from the government and the government should at least compensate them for their properties if these properties cannot be returned to them.

The compensation ceremony coincides with an Iraqi court announcement to uphold the death sentence against Saddam Hussein, his half brother Barzan Al-Tikriti, and their aide Awwad Al-Bandar. (end) mhg.

Al-Attiyah appeals to the Arab League continue its efforts in the national reconciliation
CAIRO - (Voices of Iraq)

Appealed to the Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Iraqi Dr. Khalid al-Attiyah today, Wednesday, the Arab League continue its efforts in the area of national reconciliation in Iraq.

Al-Attiya said in a press conference that was held in Cairo today, "We asked the Arab League during our meeting with Secretary-General Amr Moussa continue its efforts to achieve national reconciliation among the Iraqi people."

He added, "we reviewed with the Secretary-General of the University of Al Azhar and the elderly developments of the situation in Iraq and exchanged views on the theme of national reconciliation."

Khaled al-Attiyah, met today in Cairo, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, the two sides discussed ways to reach a cease violence and bloodshed in Iraq and Iraq exit from the present crisis.

Moussa said in the meeting : "We stand by the Iraqi people in their distress and those willing to provide assistance."
Al-Attiyah also met in Cairo, Dr. Fathi Sorour said the Egyptian People's Assembly and the Senate-Azhar mosque.

Al-Attiyah explained in a press conference that "the political process is continuing on the way forward, the efforts of the government of national unity, we will achieve our goal of security and peace in Iraq."

He pointed out that "Iraq will restore its active role in fostering regional contribution in the service of the international community."

Al-Attiyah will visit Cairo to participate in the commemoration of the first anniversary of the founding of the Arab Parliament which will be held in the League of Arab States.
