Hey Mike! I see you lurking there. . .We haven't heard much from you lately. Your last post spoke of the Kurds not concerned with the 10,000 hand out. I know you have to have more information than that. Share it with us bro'. Are the Kurds saying anything about a revalue in the next week? Or for this slow gradual climb to continue for many months, or perhaps years, or maybe quit all together. Whats the word? I know you are very careful of making predictions or giving information that might lead to a prediction, but I have gotten used to reading your insight and information from the Kurds. And at this time in the forum we need you. Post what you got bro'. Thanks, Eric.

Most people can't be trusted, so we should have laws against guns, which most people will abide by because they can be trusted.

New Years Resolution For Rol Forum
Interesting,
But sad at the same time. I have been on many forums over the years, in fact, my first moderator position was on AOL when it lanched back in late '80's, and the one thing that will never change are people. We are all different, come from different backgrounds, beliefs, countries, social status, educational levels, political beliefs, and on and on it goes, so how can anyone expect everyone to be on the same page or in total agreement with anyone else?
It is sad to see the attacks on people start to grow, and yes, for those who have been here since the start can see the changes, but like all changes, some are good, some are bad, that is life, so what we are seeing is nothing more than normal life in a very diversified world we all live in, and that involves disagreements on all fronts.
I see some have thicker skins than others, while a few have much thinner skins, just as some have more tolerance than others, there are just too many variables to deal with, but we all try to keep balance as a goal, or as I like to refer to it, the good, bad and ugly. (g) We don't have to all agree, we don't have to read posts from those we don't respect or even like, but we do all have to respect others, regardless of who or what they are all about.
I don't like to ban people, I like to ask them to respect others, that is all I care about. If a person is offended about a post, then respond with respectful counter point, but as we all should know as adults, why insult a persons opinion. It works both ways, but name calling is not the adult way to handle any response to a post, and this we will not tolerate, so expect to see action against anyone who steps over the line. I don't usually bother with the petty stuff, but disrespecting of others is where I draw the line.
We have a few strong minded members which do not like to be questioned, so if you are a thin skinned person and can't take it, delete this person from your forum preferences section, simple. It all comes down to respect, so if you have low tolerance level to adversity and those you may not like on the forum, delete them. I read everyone's posts and I rarely will say anything as I learned long ago it serves no value to the topic of discussion to start a tit for tat war. Sure, it can be fun for some who like to start a little friction, and yes, we have seen many new people here who enjoy this nonsense, but I am not one of them, so be warned, you will be watched more closely.
In short, lets all make a New Years Resolution to be a little more tolerant of others, and a lot more respectful of others opinions and personalities. I have read many opinions here on our recent losses of valued members for various reasons, and depending on the person, it may be good or bad, this is just the way it goes, not everyone is always going to be in agreement. We see grudges developing, and then expected favoritism is suggested, but it all comes down to this, we are all different, so keep it respectful and no one will have problems. I have never banned anyone, not that I didn't want to, but this is what makes for a good forum in my opinion, open to everyone, regardless of position on issues of threads. We cannot all agree with eachother, but lets all try to be more respectful of one another and stop the name calling and insults, OK?
Happy New Year to all, the Good, Bad and Ugly, (g) Mike

Iraqi Investments Club
Greetings Eric,
Wish I had more to report, but most of it has been said by other members, so I get a break. (g) Needless to say, we have all been frustrated with the lack of commitment in parliament to move things along quickly, but with the bunch of iliterates they put in place, it is a wonder they can get anything done with so many not even showing up for votes. Makes you wonder how long Maliki will be PM, and what I hear, it won't be for much longer.
As I hear it, the Kurd's have been putting pressure on Baghdad for months, and they have used every ace in the hole they had to push Maliki into action. We all know about all the important laws which were drafted by Kurd's, and we have also seen all the dragging of the feet in cabinet to ratify and enact them, as if a time warp existed, but in reality, Baghdad doesn't want to look anymore stupid than they already do.
Bottom line, the Kurd's are now pushing for revalue, and what do we see, more feet dragging with the slow rise in value we have all seen over the past month, as if this would appease Kurd leaders. We see this over and over again, we saw talk of independence by Kurd leaders, then the taking down of Iraqi flag, FIL, then rights to undiscovered oil reserves under constitution, so I think the pattern is obvious to date, the Kurd's know what the hell to get done to move on, so I believe they will prevail in their demands for immediate revalue to former value, which we have all seen in print many times, so we know it will happen, and now I feel it will happen real soon.
The last thing I see as obstacle is the reshuffling of cabinet and ouster of all the dead wood iliterates now holding important positions. Once this is complete, and again, we heard of these problems months ago, so nothing new here, they have always been a government of testing the water first, afraid to make a mistake, but the time has come to shiite or get off the pot, period. Too much BS and not enough action. The question of stably dinar is no longer an issue, and as I see it, this was one of the last and most critical points that had to be established for all to see, so what is next, dump deadwood in parliament, and that includes Maliki. Could happen next week, so we shall see. (g)
Happy New Year to All, Mike

Mike, very interesting and informative. I believe you are quite righjt about the situations. The kurds seem to me to be the ones with the brains when it comes to the economic matters. They should be running the Iraqi Government , But the are Not in control. I agree with you that maybe the Iraqis elected the wrong person for the PM, and that Maliki may be on his way out the door. WE can speculate, and wish, HOPE, and Pray till we are BLUE IN THE FACE. THE RV of the DINAR will Happen When THEY are ready to have it happen. JMHO BOB

BAGHDAD
2007: The Year Ahead
Click below for the Week in Review's take on what to watch for in other areas over the coming year.
SEEMINGLY everything went wrong in this dirty, crumbling and traumatized city in 2006. Thousands of citizens died violently. Daily electrical outages left neighborhoods in the dark. Sewers overflowed. But there is a seldom-discussed indicator of something that went remarkably right in Baghdad and throughout Iraq in 2006: $27.99 billion.
That was the government’s operating budget, dominated by salaries, subsidies for food and fuel and pensions. What went right is that through violence, political turmoil and governmental turnover, nearly all of that money was actually paid to Iraqi citizens.
The same could not be said of the portion of the budget devoted to capital expenditures, known more intuitively as the reconstruction budget. Some Iraqi ministries were able to spend no more than 15 percent of their capital budgets in the face of attacks on employees and work sites and a brain drain of personnel trained to handle contracts and large construction projects.
Somehow money for the salaries made it to the banks and then found its way to millions of employees in a government-dominated economy. If it hadn’t, a state teetering on the edge would certainly have collapsed.
So this is the determinative question for 2007: will Iraq keep paying its salaries? If so, there is at least a wan indication that a few basic ganglia of the national organism are still twitching.
Sinan al-Shabibi, director of the Central Bank of Iraq, says Iraq is likely to stay financially healthy in 2007 because of oil revenues, a large cash reserve and a powerful bank to guard against failures. Only a big run on the local currency or destabilizing flows of cash could cause major problems.
Still, banks are increasingly the targets of heists, and bank executives are being killed and kidnapped. The salaries they pay may be the last canary in the coal mine: the last approximation of stability in an enterprise gone toxic. As salaries go, so goes the last hopes for the new government of Iraq.
