Talabani smart move! They need to just allow their law and justice to take care of it's criminal; the Judge says hang them, the US & Kurds should just stay out of the limelight and off of the bleachers! These types of people will look for any excuse to incite a riot or to cause others to do their bidding! You can do everything right and think you have done a good deed, but if all the people are not behind you, the few can and will stir the pot and mess us a perfectly great "revaluation"!

Move on and getting this puppy to bed and making sure that rate is in our favor is the plan; if it is in our favor, the Iraqis and the Kurds will love it too! I think they are pro-ROL CLUB! What do you think? Ah, just want I thought! Thank you and have a great day!

It was very educational. And I advise anyone that gets another chance to watch this to do it. I believe now even more Strongly in our Investment in Iraq then ever before now. This documentary is all about the life of Iraq and Sadamm before he was ever a teen-ager. It is kinda like Studing revalations in the Bible. I want go into detail but I do advise all to see it. It has to do with the understanding of Iraq and its future as if it is all ready planned. And by reading revalations we know that it is. For it is written, It will be done.

This is not off topic. It is about our Investment in Iraq.

they are late, it was reported yesterday in baghdad actually.

just as was said earlier, the rumor mill has been spinning off the wheel for months talking about how the powers to be are ousting maliki for someone who will shut sadr and the rest of the wildboys down. maliki hasnt been very forceful at stopping the militias so those who control (us govt as well as all organizations that are involved i believe) want someone in there that will, for better term of it, kick butt and take names.

i agree, this is his way of backing out of an unpleasant situation where he feels he cant win. too bad coz this shows hes a very smart man he just doesnt have the cahoneys to git r done.

you all know if youre pickin a kurd to take over im all over that one in a BIG WAYYYYY!!!!

Seems the rest dont mess with the Kurds and it seems the Kurds are willing to work things for all of Iraq, so why not have a Kurd as PM and President.....Might just work. But Sadr, to me that is just like having Sadamm again.
I agree with your views in regards to the Kurds. They seem to be the only ones with there heads on straight and able to make things happen.

Haddad-Adel told reporters, "Iran has repeatedly announced that end of Saddam's life will not put an end to series of his crimes then backed by the United States.

Merkel to seek Bush backing for Mideast peace, closer trade ties

    by Deborah Cole
    2 hours, 56 minutes ago

German Chancellor Angela Merkel will seek US President George W. Bush's backing this week for a fresh Middle East peace drive and bolstered trans-Atlantic economic ties under her EU presidency.

Merkel will fly to Washington Thursday in her first trip abroad since assuming on January 1 the six-month presidency of the European Union and the helm of the Group of Eight most industrialized nations for 2007.

In an interview with Wednesday's Financial Times newspaper, Merkel said that improving US-European relations would be a top priority under her leadership.

"Our economic systems are based on the same values," she said.

"We must watch out that we do not drift apart but instead come closer together, where there are clear advantages

    or both sides."

She said it was her ambition to create a single transatlantic market for investors, with common rules and standards on issues such as intellectual property and financial regulation.

As Europe's biggest economy and most populous country, Germany is facing high expectations for the dual presidencies, which by coincidence fall together.

Spokesmen for the two leaders said Merkel and Bush would take up international crises including the stalled Middle East peace process, efforts to quell violence in Afghanistan and Iraq, Iran's disputed nuclear ambitions, instability in Lebanon and efforts to decide the final status of Kosovo.

"The German role on all of these issues will be especially important in 2007," White House deputy press secretary Scott Stanzel said.

Germany plans to call a meeting "as soon as possible" to revitalize the so-called Middle East quartet grouping the EU, the United States, Russia and the United Nations amid grumbling in Europe that Washington has allowed the peace process to languish as Iraq has consumed its attention.

"We would like to see the quartet take on a stronger role," Merkel's spokesman Ulrich Wilhelm said Wednesday.

Merkel will also press Bush on cutting greenhouse gases amid mounting European frustration at a US refusal to ratify the Kyoto Protocol, which runs out in 2012, or on proposing a viable alternative.

"Of course we must and will talk with the Americans about the fact that they too should commit to reducing carbon dioxide (emissions)," Merkel told the January issue of the political monthly Cicero.

"It is a tough problem to tackle."

The EU wants to forge a common position for negotiations on the successor to the Kyoto pact by March. Germany would like the bloc to commit to reducing harmful emissions by 30 percent by 2020.

Merkel and Bush are also likely to discuss G8 plans to rein in highly speculative hedge funds, which have wrought instability on international financial markets.

In a meeting last month, Merkel and US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson agreed that action was needed to avert risks and protect investors and that more transparency must be fostered with the G8 which groups Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States and Russia.

The one-day visit to Washington will be Merkel's third since she took office almost 14 months ago.

She has moved to recalibrate German foreign policy at the helm of a "grand coalition" government grouping her conservative Christian Union bloc and their chief political rivals, the Social Democrats.

Merkel has actively sought to heal the rift with Washington she inherited from her predecessor Gerhard Schroeder, whose ties with Bush turned frosty over his vocal opposition to the US-led Iraq war.

Bush narrowing options for new Iraq plan

    by Olivier Knox

US President George W. Bush, just days from unveiling his new plan for Iraq, urged opposition Democrats who will control the US Congress until he leaves office in 2009 to back his spending priorities.

"Congress has changed. Our obligations to the country haven't," he said, acknowledging the Democrats' sweeping victory in November elections in large part thanks to anger over the unpopular war.

In a Rose Garden speech with his cabinet arrayed around him, Bush said he would submit a five-year budget next month that aims to balance the US federal budget by 2012 while keeping in place large tax cuts many Democrats oppose.

"It will address the most urgent needs of our nation, in particular the need to protect ourself from radicals and terrorists, the need to win the war on terror, the need to maintain a strong national defense and the need to keep this economy growing by making tax relief permanent," he said.

Bush called for overhauling the government-run pension and health care programs that account for a large share of the government's annual budget and for curbing lawmakers' pet projects, which gobble up billions of tax dollars.

And he renewed his appeal for the US Congress, held by Democrats for the first time since he took office in January 2001, to give him the controversial line-item veto that would allow him to strike individual spending measures.

"We've all been entrusted with public office at a momentous time in our nation's history, and together we have important things to do. It's time to set aside politics and focus on the future," he declared.

Bush was also to host Democratic and Republican leaders at the White House later for receptions one day before the Democrats officially take over the US Congress.

Earlier, in a piece published by the Wall Street Journal newspaper, Bush promised to unveil his hotly anticipated new strategy for Iraq within days amid warnings even from his Republicans that they oppose escalating the war.

"In the days ahead, I will be addressing our nation about a new strategy to help the Iraqi people gain control of the security situation and hasten the day when the Iraqi government gains full control over its affairs," Bush wrote.

"Ultimately, Iraqis must resolve the most pressing issues facing them. We can't do it for them. But we can help Iraq defeat the extremists inside and outside of Iraq -- and we can help provide the necessary breathing space for this young government to meet its responsibilities."

"Leaders in both parties understand the stakes in this struggle. We now have the opportunity to build a bipartisan consensus to fight and win the war," he wrote, warning that "we can't play politics as usual."

"We certainly want to work with the president. We hope that when the president says compromise, it means more than 'do it my way,' which is what he's meant in the past," Democratic Senator Charles Schumer responded.

White House spokesman Scott Stanzel said that no date had been set for Bush's Iraq speech, which will come after months of high-profile debate on how to fix the White House's failed policy for bringing peace there.

"Certainly the president is narrowing the choices" in discussions with US diplomatic and military officials and Iraqi authorities, the spokesman told reporters.

U.S. military sees Iraq control, purchases in 2007

    1 hour, 26 minutes ago

U.S. commanders in Iraq expect to have handed over full control of the country's security and armed forces to the Iraqi authorities by the end of this year, a U.S. general said on Wednesday.

Major General William Caldwell, a spokesman, also told a news conference that Iraq's military and police planned to buy hundreds of armoured vehicles, as well as helicopters, under a $150 million agreement signed last month with the United States.

Describing 2007 as the "Year of Transition," Caldwell said that by summer all 11 Iraqi army divisions to have been formed by that time would be directly under the command of the Iraqi government and by autumn all of Iraq's 18 provincial governors would be in charge of security in their regions.

"By the end of this year, the dynamics will be entirely different," he said.

The timetable he sketched out is longer than one Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki forecast after he took office eight months ago, when he said Iraqi control of the divisions and provinces could be complete by the spring or summer.

However, it is in line with remarks in recent months by General George Casey, the U.S. commander in Iraq, about when he believes Iraqi forces will be able to cope largely without U.S. help.

Caldwell said the United States would continue to provide logistical and intelligence support, as well as work to ensure the "loyalty" of some units of the Iraqi forces -- many in Saddam Hussein's once dominant Sunni Arab minority accuse some of being loyal not to the government but to sectarian Shi'ite militias.

"Iraq's security forces must not only continue to improve their capabilities but must also work to gain the confidence of all Iraqi people," Caldwell said.

He urged the Shi'ite-led government to make "hard compromises" for national reconciliation and to reach out to Sunnis after Saddam's televised hanging angered many Sunnis.

Caldwell said that Iraq planned to buy 300 armored personnel carriers, 600 heavily armored Humvee patrol vehicles and a number of UH-2 Huey helicopters as part of a $150 million foreign military sales agreement with Washington.

He declined comment on speculation that President George W. Bush may announce a temporary increase in the number of U.S. troops in Iraq as part of a new strategy to try to arrest a slide toward all-out sectarian civil war.

If I am not mistaken, I believe a new Prime Minister would be chosen from the same alliance, the Dawa Party. However, if Maliki were replaced via coup or NSG that wouldn't be the case. My bet would be Mahdi or Allawi if the latter were to occur.
