Hanging of Saddam co-defendants delayed after 'international pressure'
Thursday, January 04, 2007
[JURIST news archive]
The executions of two Saddam Hussein co-defendants, former chief judge of Iraq's Hussein-era Revolutionary Court Awad Hamed al-Bandar and former Iraqi intelligence chief Barzan Ibrahim al Tikriti have been postponed. The hangings were originally expected Thursday, but an official in Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's office said the delay was the result of "international pressure." It is now unclear when the hangings will be carried out; one Iraqi lawmaker has predicted that al-Bandar and al-Tikriti will be executed Sunday.
Another lawmaker has suggested that the hangings will be delayed until there is a final decision from the Iraqi High Tribunal on the sentence of former Iraqi Vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan. In the appeals chamber's December 26 decision upholding Hussein's death sentence, the court accepted the prosecution's argument that a life sentence for Ramadan was too lenient and ordered the trial court to re-sentence him. AFP has more.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour has urged Iraq not to execute al-Bandar and al-Tikriti, who were convicted and sentenced to death in November alongside Hussein for crimes against humanity committed in the village of Dujail in 1982. According to a statement [text] from Arbour's office:

Help me out here !!!
Will someone please remind me why we think that after the iraq holiday we will have an RV? Why can't it be just that they are on holiday and not that something fishy is going on during this time? Let's face it folks, it's as good a time if any to RV, but more than likely the auctions are not happening because they are on holiday. I don't think that there are people in the government or CBI that are able to do all this sneaking around trying to RV without anyone knowing. With as many investigators as we have here on Rolclub, someone would know something prior to an RV. JMT.

Wto Snoopy News
Ok at the IRAQ Ministery of Foreign Affairs website
it states the following:
INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS
Iraq continues to increase its representation in international organisations and since September 2003, we have successfully re-established our seat in most multilateral bodies including:
* Arab League
* United Nations General Assembly
* Organisation of Islamic Conference
* G77
* International Monetary Fund
* Non-Aligned Movement
* OPEC
* Regional Conference of Iraq's Neighbouring Countries
* UNESCO
* UNCTAD
* World Bank
* World Trade Organisation
QUESTION: WHAT DOES "re-established our seat" REALLY MEAN?
WORLD TRADE ORGANISATION: General Council - Annual Report (2006) POSTED 12/22/2006
THIS WAS COVERED IN THE REPORT:
The General Council took note of this information.
(b) Iraq (WT/GC/M/106) THIS DOCUMENT IS GONE NOW
In December 2004, the General Council established a Working Party to examine the request of Iraq for accession to the WTO Agreement.
At its meeting on 14-15 December 2006, the Chairman informed the General Council that following informal consultations, and in keeping with usual WTO practice, it had been agreed that Mrs Uribe (Colombia) would serve as Chairman of this Working Party.
8. Accession matters 18
(a) Bosnia and Herzegovina 18
(b) Iraq 19 - NOTHING ELSE SAID ON WHAT PROGRESS FOR IRAQ?? HMMM
OK THEN I FOUND IN THE WTO INFO: Accession through the backdoor: how the US is pushing Iraq into the WTO (IT'S TO LONG TO POST HERE)
THIS COMMENT :
WELCOME TO THE CLUB
It is a little known fact that Iraq is now well on its way to becoming a fully-fledged member of the WTO. Iraq has now advanced to step 3 of the accession process and will most likely complete it without most Iraqis knowing it even happened. THE ROLCLUB WILL KNOW ABOUT IT!!
HERE IS THE INFO ON WHO WROTE THIS:
Marylou Malig is the trade campaign coordinator for Focus on the Global South. marylouatfocusweb.org
ANYBODY ON THE ROLCLUB WANT TO PICK HER BRAIN THERE'S THE EMAIL.
