Default CNN Reports about Economy in Iraq

    Hey Folks

Don't really ever post here too much , but I'm taking note today watching CNN Europe a couple of driving points mentioned that should really push for this REVAL of Iraqi Currency to jump start the economy.

It was reported that Iraq's economy is in a shambles and that many are looking for money by volunteering for planting these Roadside Bombs. The terrorists are cowards and I imagine there are very few brains left to devise schemes , so they hire and pay anyone to plant these bombs $500 to $1000 to plant the roadside explossion bombs. The people just desparately need the money.

The other point they made was this crisis with Belarus freezing Oil movement to the rest of Europe and Iraqi Oil looking better all the time as a replacement of Russian Oil. So things should be falling into place soon.

Thanks for the info, Its good to see more mainstream media mentioning the economy in Iraq CNN, CNBC the other day and a few of the papers here in the UK talking about the HCL and as you mentioned the problems with Russia over their oil I agree will only be good for us in this investment.

Default George W. Bush to get way

    I thought post this one!

Remember it would be announced in Iraq this week. That gives them one more day. TONIGHT/TOMMOROW on the 11th!!

George W. Bush to get way
    Adam Harvey
    January 09, 2007 12:00am

    Article from:

TOP US Democrat Nancy Pelosi would be more likely to pick up an M16 and enlist than deny President Bush the billions he needs to increase US involvement in Iraq.

The surge of 15,000 to 30,000 extra troops to Iraq reportedly favoured by Mr Bush is opposed by the new Democrat-controlled Congress and an estimated four in five Americans -- but despite tough talk from the Democrats yesterday, the President is certain to get his way.

The US Congress authorised the war that began in early 2003, and it would probably be illegal for it to now withhold the funds needed to continue the conflict, constitutional experts said yesterday.
Even if the Democrats had the power to block funding, the party's leaders would be unlikely to flex their new muscles over such an emotive issue.

In the run-up to next year's presidential elections, they would be labelled the party that abandoned US troops in the heat of battle.
Ms Pelosi yesterday indicated that Mr Bush would probably get what he wanted, but not without asking nicely.

"The American people and the Congress support those troops. We will not abandon them," Ms Pelosi said.
"But if the President wants to add to this mission, he is going to have to justify it. And this is new for him, because up until now, the Republican Congress has given him a blank check with no oversight, no standards, no conditions, and we've gotten into this situation which is a war without end," she said.

Mr Bush is expected to announce on Thursday that 15,000 to 30,000 more troops will be sent to Iraq in a short-term "surge" directed mainly at Baghdad and surrounding Sunni-controlled regions.
The new second-in-command of US troops in Iraq, Lt-Gen Raymond Odierno, said the President's plan must include a carrot as well as a stick.

A military "surge" would not be enough to rescue Iraq, advocating economic and political changes as well, he said.
General Odierno reacted strongly when asked whether it was too late to change the course of events in Iraq: "If we think we have a new strategy it is never too late. It goes back to patience. Over time we can accomplish the mission.

"Now, that time may be two or three years from now, so the issue becomes: are we willing to wait two to three years or do we want to speed it up?"

    In other developments:

LEGISLATION is expected to be announced in Iraq this week opening Iraq's huge oil reserves to foreign companies.

Foreign companies were kicked out when the oil industry was nationalised in 1972.
The legislation reportedly offers companies a much higher share of profits than normal to compensate for security risks.

TWO of Saddam Hussein's co-defendants were still awaiting death. Saddam's half-brother and former intelligence chief Barzan Ibrahim, and former head of Iraq's Revolutionary Court Awad Hamed al-Bandar, were said by their lawyer to be mentally "in bad shape" after being taken out of their cells for execution with Saddam, then returned to await their fate.

MORE than 17,000 Iraqi civilians and police officers died violently in the second half of 2006, a sharp increase from the beginning of the year, the Washington Post reported.

Citing confidential Iraqi Health Ministry statistics, the newspaper said in the first half of last year 5640 Iraqi civilians and police officers were killed.

As we have read other topics are postponed till tommorow, so I think this has first priority!

By the way, why don't we hear anything about the HCL.

It should also be in parliament now, maybe also a reason that they postponed other topics of their agenda today till tommorow.

It's just a matter of priorities!
i believe the first reading was sunday, day between with no parliament, tuesday would have been the second reading, wednesday in between, thursday would be the final reading and vote.
