Hi,
Also had an e-mail about a posting stating that several possibilities could be explored about bring the dinar to the dollar but this might take a couple of months and that in the meantime a increase in value of 47% would be put to parliament next week. Has anybody else had this one.

latest news on the iraqi dinar

yes i received that email too. it was from freedinar.com and was talking about the same teleconference last Thursday that was discussed in this thread at that time. Dr. Qaddouri and his opinions of the "small" initial revals.
in my personal opinion it is only baseless speculation and is suspiciously self serving for the MLM business trying to get peeps to sign up before the price increase. the use of a very specific percent, like 47, is frequently a sign of fabrication.
the FACT that official statments have been made that discuss "raising 3 zeros" and "achieve dinar equal dollar" seem very much more credible than the Dr.'s opinions to me at this point.
i am still very much of the opinion that the reval needs to be done BEFORE the FI law is enacted NOT that the FI law is a prereq for the reval and so i believe we are very close.Last edited by clueless; 05-07-2006 at 03:02 PM.

I agree clueless, I'm more apt to believe the finance minister about something of such importance.

Al-Maliki calls upon Kuwait businessmen to invest in his country
Iraqi PM calls upon Kuwait businessmen to invest in his country
05/07/2006
Source: Kuna
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki called upon Kuwait investors on Wednesday to invest in his country and contribute to its reconstruction.
In a meeting with Kuwaiti businessmen and representative of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the prime minister welcomed the proposal for the establishment of a higher committee that would remove obstacles facing trade exchange between the two sides.
He noted that the Iraqi government was working to approve a new investment law that would facilitate foreign investment and boost reconstruction efforts.
Al-Maliki commended Kuwaiti-Iraqi relations, which he said were based on mutual respect and common interests, pointing out that many good opportunities had been lost due to wrongful policies of the former regime.
The prime minister also said that Iraq had been affected greatly by the war with Iran, followed by the devastating invasion of Kuwait, which he said led to the freezing of activities in many of Iraq's vital facilities, namely the oil sector.
He went on to say that the new government was working hard to bring the country's economic sector back in full service, adding that once approved, the new investment law would serve to boost the country's economic sector.
On security, the prime minister said that this cast its negative shadow on investment but had not hindered it altogether, noting that there were many stable areas in the country and great opportunities in the oil, gas, construction, and industrial sectors.
For his part, the Kuwaiti chamber Chairman Ali Al-Ghanim said economic relations between Kuwait and Iraq dated back to more than 200 years, adding that in order for both sides to attain development and achieve common interests, these relations had to be transparent.
Al-Ghanim affirmed that Kuwaiti businessmen sought to contribute to the reconstruction of Iraq, and called for looking into the issue of property of Kuwaitis in Iraq and restoring them to their owners.
Obstacles in the way of boosting trade exchange, he said, included the short working hours at crossings on the joint borders, as well as the long period required to complete a financial transfer.
The chairman called for the formation of a joint trade committee that would be assigned with looking into such obstacles and arrive at ways to overcome them.
Meanwhile, Kuwaiti businessmen discussed other obstacles they faced in trading in Iraq, and the Iraqi prime minister promised that these would be looked into.

Iraq minister strikes power deal
5 July 2006 - Saudi Arabia has agreed to provide Iraq with a loan worth around $125m to upgrade the country's shattered power grid, Iraqi officials said Monday.
Iraq's new Electricity Minister Kareem Wahid signed an agreement in Riyadh with his Saudi counterpart. The money would be spent supplying Iraq with equipment to upgrade Iraq's electricity network.
Wahid was part of a delegation headed by Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki which visited Saudi Arabia during the weekend. The officials gave no details on the terms of the loan.
Meanwhile, Iraq's senior deputy electricity minister Raad Al Haris and 19 of his bodyguards were abducted at gunpoint by a gang of men who ambushed their convoy in eastern Baghdad Tuesday. The gunman released the group some ten hours later.
Al Haris had been travelling in a convoy near Baghdad's Shia Sadr City district at 7.30 am (0330 GMT) when gunmen, using nine four-wheel-drive vehicles and wearing military uniforms, blocked their way and kidnapped them, police said.
Iraq's power production capacity currently stands at 4000 megawatts to 5000 mw, which is well below projected peak summer demand of more than 8000 MW, according to a report by the US Energy Information Administration.

Iraq Continues Kirkuk Oil Flow
AMMAN -(Dow Jones)- Iraqi crude oil pumping from Kirkuk oil fields to the Turkish Ceyhan port continued Wednesday and one vessel started loading, an Iraqi oil official and a shipping agent said.
The official said that stores at the Mediterranean port reached 5 million barrels Wednesday morning.
A shipping agent at the port reached by telephone said that the flow is continuing at a rate of 15,000-20,000 barrels an hour.
The agent said Histria Diamond started loading 600,000 barrels at the Mediterranean port Wednesday morning. Another vessel is at anchor at the port and it is expected to start loading 2 million barrels of Kirkuk crude later Wednesday.
The flow of Kirkuk crude to Ceyhan resumed Tuesday after a suspension of two days due to technical problems.
The Iraqi oil official said that Turkish refiner Tupras has yet to lift 1 million barrels via a pipeline to its refinery. He said that was delayed because the company hasn't yet opened a letter of credit.
Exports of Kirkuk crude resumed last week after a suspension of nearly a year due to persistent acts of sabotage to the pipeline.

Question on foreign investment law and RV
I have a question that may sound stupid so please forgive me. I have been reading that the foreign investment law is passed in August and that also people have stated that the dinar HAS to be revalued before this happens. What i'm wanting to know is this just opinion or actual stated fact, was this said in some official place? I realize that if the dinar isn't revalued that people will be able to buy up iraq quite cheaply which to me i wouldn't think that govt of iraq would want their country being owned by majority of foreigners. So logically it makes sense that an RV would happen before the FI law. Can someone tell me if the statements made of RV coming before the FI is an actual fact that is stated somewhere that i can see.
thanks
krissy
